Altos Computing recently launched its Make-in-India AI server portfolio. The launch underlines the company’s commitment to supporting localized data processing, sovereign digital infrastructure, and next-generation AI workloads for enterprises, government organizations, and fast-growing businesses across the country.
Rajeev Ranjan, Editor, Digital Terminal, held an exclusive interaction with Priya Krishnamurthy, Director, Altos India, where she shared insights on the vision behind this landmark launch and Altos’ roadmap to accelerate AI adoption in India.
Rajeev: How do you see the ground-breaking launch of the Altos Make-in-India AI servers?
Priya: We are feeling responsible because we know that even today, with this Make-in-India server launch, there is still a lot more localization that needs to be done when it comes to creating a complete server in India.
Today, we may have around 50-51% of components getting locally manufactured in India, but this will definitely push some of our friends and industry competitors to come together, think, and see how we can make the sovereign dream of chip manufacturing happen on a much larger scale. It is only the start of the journey. There is still a long way to go, but the journey has started. That is why we feel proud. At the same time, we need to continue this momentum and push the entire ecosystem to create more products from India.
Rajeev: What would be your appeal to SMEs and growing businesses to adopt AI infrastructure early?
Priya: We would ask SMEs to think about the way we all adopted digitization. From an era of pages, we quickly moved to mobile. From a day of currency notes, we moved to digital payments. In the same way, adopt AI. The faster you adopt, the faster you are able to get the best out of it. Do not get left behind. There are people like us who are ready to help in this journey by bringing both software, hardware, and the complete ecosystem around it in a much smaller and scalable methodology. Start small with us and grow with us.
Rajeev: Altos has a strong partner ecosystem. What message would you like to give partners after this AI launch?
Priya: Our partners have trusted the Acer platform on Make-in-India and have taken it to customers, helping build Acer as such a global brand. We are also coming from the same table, with the same engineering background and the same DNA. I am sure that Altos will also deliver world-class servers from India moving forward at a much faster pace. Today, as the world is facing supply challenges, Make-in-India will actually reduce our dependency on trade lines. If 90% or even 50% of the components are going local, we do not have to worry about dollar fluctuation. We are paying in INR, our currency is stable, and that way partners will be able to reach technology much faster and at a much lower cost to customers.
Rajeev: What are your step-by-step plans to achieve your growth targets in India?
Priya: First, we will definitely reach out to the partner community because that is where we feel we are creating an ecosystem of solution providers. Hardware alone will not solve it. The complete ecosystem with solutions has to reach various verticals. So, we are picking and choosing vertical by vertical, creating solutions, and creating the entire basket for them to adopt AI much faster and better. We also want to provide scalable solutions. At the same time, we are talking to some financial service providers through which SMEs can also get financial options. That way, the adoption of technology can become much better. Through this approach, whether it is the partner community or customers, they will be able to adopt AI and scale it as they grow.
Rajeev: Altos has spoken about becoming a top three brand. How will you achieve that milestone?
Priya: Definitely we will achieve it by virtue of a complete solution stack and by making it appealing to customers. We want to become a very reliable technology brand, make it commercially more viable, and make it widely available. If you are technologically superior, if you are available across the country, and if you have the financial backing to support customers who want technology but may not have the initial money power to invest, then growth becomes achievable. By tying up with various finance organizations and ensuring these three ecosystems work together, I am sure that becoming a top three brand is definitely an achievable milestone for Altos.
Rajeev: Service and support are critical in enterprise infrastructure. What investments are you making in this area?
Priya: Definitely, service is extremely important because servers are expected to run 24 by 7. Our first idea is to create a reliable product by virtue of which customers do not have to come to us frequently. Reliability itself becomes the first service layer. But failures may happen, and that is where we are looking at Agentic AI as the latest opportunity. We want to create Agentic AI-led 24 by 7 customer support. Today, many people are technologically capable and can fix software-related issues themselves if guided properly. If we are able to create a chatbot or intelligent support system through which customers can get technology fixes quickly, that itself can become one of the biggest service changes in the game. That is the benefit of combining software and hardware in the right way.
