Who is Neal Mohan New YouTube CEO?

Neal Mohan, the newly appointed Indian American CEO of YouTube has been a well-known leader in corporate world as he has carved a niche during his work-period as a Chief Product Officer for YouTube. His appointment broke in the news after Susan Wojcicki Chief Executive Officer of YouTube stepped down from her designation. She informed about her resignation through her official social media handle on Twitter.

Her post read as follows: “Today, after nearly 25 years at @Google, I’m stepping back to start a new chapter. I'm inspired every day by creators around the world who bring people together on @YouTube. It's been an honor to have a front row seat to this incredible community.”

On her post Neal Mohan replied with a thank you note, the caption wrote, “Thank you, @SusanWojcicki. It's been amazing to work with you over the years. You've built YouTube into an extraordinary home for creators and viewers. I'm excited to continue this awesome and important mission. Looking forward to what lies ahead...”

A Stanford graduate, Neal Mohan has previously started his career with Google in 2008. After that, he became the chief product officer at YouTube, with an involvement with shorts and Music. Mr Mohan has also served Microsoft and he chairs personal styling firm Stitch Fix boards, and Biotechnology firm 23andMe. Not only this, he is currently serving a private US think tank Foreign Relation Council as an active member.

Early Days Life

Neal Mohan is a B-tech graduate in Electric Engineering from Stanford University. Also, he enrolled for MBA in initial year 2000s. then, he started his career with an online advertising company DoubleClick. Google took over this company and, in this way, he became a part of Google and then he was announced senior vice president Video Ad and Display.

As reported in Fast Company, at the time of joining, he was doing a job of launching and overseeing other bigger projects of YouTube, as a chief product officer.

In his talks with Fast Company, he said “The best analogy that comes to mind for me is really just thinking about YouTube as a stage.” The need of today’s consumer is “the best views possible of the creators that they’re most excited about.”

If a 2013 report published in Business Insider to be believed, Mr Mohan had been offered CPO position by Twitter, but Google was successful in making him stay at a bonus of $100 million. One of his former bosses considers him as a “rare” gem and also “an ‘insatiable technologist’ who also had enough business savvy” at customer interaction strategy. Wojcicki said, “he has a wonderful sense for our product, our business, our creator and user communities, and our employees. Neal will be a terrific leader for YouTube.”

With his appointment as YouTube CEO, he will be an addition to the increasing list of Indian origin CEO at US based multinational companies including Satya Nadella, CEO Microsoft, Shantanu Narayen, Adobe CEO, Sundar Pichai, Alphabet CEO, FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam and Laxman Narasimhan almost ready to overtake Starbucks, a coffee chain.

The change in the leadership came after witnessing a decrease in ad revenue in second quarter straight, as a result of intense competition with TikTok and Facebook Reels and OTT platforms.
