Indian-American Neal Mohan Promoted as YouTube CEO

YouTube’s Chief Executive Officer Susan Wojcicki announced that she is stepping down from her position after serving for nearly a decade. Susan Wojcicki will be replaced by her deputy Neal Mohan. Wojcicki is one of the first Google employees and has played an instrumental role in the growth of video sharing platform.

Wojcicki shared this announcement in a blog post on Thursday. Wojcicki said that she is now planning to focus on her family, health and personal projects. She was previously senior vice president for ad products at Google and became the CEO of YouTube in 2014. However, as per her statement, she will hold an advisory role across Google and Alphabet.

Indian-American Neal Mohan who joined Google in 2008 and currently serving as the chief product officer will be the new CEO of YouTube. According to the media reports, the change is effective immediately.

This decision came after YouTube’s advertising revenue fell for the second straight quarter amidst rising competition for viewing time with popular short video platform TikTok and streaming platform Netflix.

Neal Mohan is a Stanford graduate and he was appointed chief product officer at YouTube in 2015. He played crucial role in building YouTube Shorts and Music.
