Airtel Increases Basic Tariffs by 57% In Seven Regions

Bharti Airtel has changed its tariff plan and deployed the revised entry level plan in seven regions at ₹155, as published in gadgets360 site. The firm is aiming at its plan to grow per user average revenue, which is 57% of the previous basic tariff.

Regions where new plans are introduced includes – Rajasthan, Bihar and Karnataka, and have already discontinued the existing plan of ₹99 in these states, it stated.

The telecommunication provider first tested its plans late last year in Haryana and Odisha on trial basis.

After 5G auction event last year in India, where telecom companies emptied billions of dollars, this move was widely anticipated from the industry.

In September quarter Airtel’s per user average revenue (ARPU)was ₹190. ARPU is a standard performance indicator to measure telecom firms. There was a 3.8 % successive rise in that quarter and around 24% was a YoY increase.

The measurement of AEPU should have been ₹200 and for financial health of the business it needed to be ₹300, as Airtel clarified in November 2021, after rising the tariff previously.

Airtel’s biggest rival Reliance Jio had a ₹177.2 ARPU in September quarter and it went to ₹178.2 till December quarter.

However, Jio have not raised its tariff from one year, and it is ruling the market ever since it played havoc with the industry by launching its cut-price rates back in 2016.

Third quarter report of Airtel is schedule to be released by February 7.
