Hughes Communications India, Limited (‘Hughes India’), a majority-owned subsidiary of Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) inaugurated its third India satellite hub at Manesar today. This greenfield facility is the third of its kind after existing and operational facilities at Gurgaon and Hyderabad.

The hub will cater to growing demand for satellite broadband connectivity and high bandwidth application services for Indian enterprise and SMBs. It will also serve as a disaster recovery back-up site for several Hughes’ Indian customers besides the existing hubs in Gurgaon and Hyderabad.

“Broadband connectivity has emerged as a key enabler - delivering broadband applications and services. Vast segments remain underserved or unserved in terms of broadband connectivity – a gap that satellite operations can best address” said Partho Banerjee, MD, Hughes Communications India Ltd at the inauguration of the Manesar facility.

Speaking at the inauguration event Pranav Roach, president Hughes Network Systems India Ltd. said that “Hughes was one of the earliest and among the largest foreign investors in the country since the early 1990s. We remain committed to making further investments in India and look forward to receiving necessary governmental approvals which will help improve availability of satellite capacity”.

The new green field facility is now ready for commissioning and will be the core operations facility for Hughes in India. Set up over 10,000 sqft area, the new, state-of-the-art hub, with the provision for three 9/11 M antennas.  Regarded as a Tier IV data center and built to green norms, it has a rack capacity of 3100U. This facility, along with the ones in Gurgaon and Hyderabad makes Hughes the only satellite communications service provider in India to offer hub and satellite level redundancy to customers as both its KU hubs will operate on different satellites and in different geographies. It is equipped with the state of art network operating center, monitoring tools, fiber optic termination for backhaul traffic, internet gateway and applications for content delivery and interactive onsite learning.

Prior to this commissioning, HCIL holds the biggest NOC in Asia Pacific; at Gurgaon, and a state of the art Jupiter NOC supporting major banking customers, at Hyderabad.

The Hub at Gurgaon consits of the KU facility and the data center, having a 9m KU antenna and two major netowkrs based on DVB-S2 and DVB-S Hughes HN / HX technology. This data center has rack capacity of over 2000U and more than 80,000 sites are operated over in the hub.
