“We're Confident That Primebook Will Be An Indispensable Tool For Students Everywhere”

Laptops offer students the flexibility to access educational resources and complete assignments from anywhere. The portability and versatility of laptops contribute to an efficient learning experience, allowing students to seamlessly transition between tasks and subjects. Additionally, educational software and applications enhance the learning process, providing interactive and engaging tools.

Primebook, a laptop with PrimeOS, an operating system based on Android. Primebook has been specifically designed for K12 students in blended online education programs, making it easy for students to use and understand. Rajeev Ranjan, Editor, Digital Terminal recently held an exclusive chat with Mr. Chitranshu Mahant, CEO, Primebook. He shared insights about their journey, USP, and goals. Read the excerpts below:

Q

Rajeev: How has Primebook's journey been regarding objectives, growth, funding, and achievements since its inception?

A

Chitranshu: Primebook has had a remarkable journey over the past five years, including securing angel funding in 2017, launching the PrimeOS trial version in 2018, and experiencing superfast organic growth with one million downloads of PrimeOS in just 12 months. However, the pandemic in 2020 caused a broken supply chain and a decline in revenue until the company was able to bounce back in 2022 by updating the operating system and setting up a new supply chain, leading to the launch of Primebook in December last year. We are fortunate that Primebook was featured on Shark Tank in January 2023 and launched on Flipkart just a few months later. With a projected revenue of INR 65 Cr and a 10% profit for FY 23-24, we are projecting a positive trajectory for the brand.

Q

Rajeev: What features or benefits of Primebook's laptop set them apart from competitors in the market? How does the brand differentiate itself regarding pricing, design, technology, or other factors?

A

Chitranshu: We are proud that Primebook is the first of its kind, made in India, with a patent-pending operating system, PrimeOS. We believe that edtech is becoming more Android-focused, and that's why we've invented an affordable and high-performance device. Students can be more productive and efficient with multi-window support and a desktop experience with Android apps. We also made sure to include 4G sim enabled with calling and internet so that students can stay connected wherever they are.

Our education tools, such as the pop-up browser, AI assistant, and pop-up tool kit, are designed to help students learn more effectively. With PrimeCoding, a coding terminal specifically for K12 students, we're helping to prepare the next generation of coders. With PrimeSecure parental controls, PrimeFiles student-focused file manager, and Primebrowser safe student browse, we provide a secure learning environment. With access to over 50,000 apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, Browser, WhatsApp, Zoom, PW, and many more, we're confident that Primebook will be an indispensable tool for students everywhere. Moreover, it is affordably priced with a range of INR 13k to INR 16k, which is the opening price point of the laptop market.

Q

Rajeev: Primebook's laptops are made in India, a great selling point for consumers who want to support local businesses. Can you share more about the company's commitment to sourcing and manufacturing products in India?

A

Chitranshu: We proudly state that Primebook is committed to building for the nation by sourcing and manufacturing products in India. This is a significant achievement, with 62% of the products manufactured locally, including the motherboard, operating system, charger, packaging consumables, and other components. It's also interesting to know that VVDN Technologies and Optiemus Electronics Ltd are the manufacturers of Primebook, highlighting their expertise in producing quality electronics locally.

Q

Rajeev: Jio has recently launched its cloud service, which includes a range of features that could appeal to customers looking for affordable and accessible storage solutions. How does Primebook differentiate itself from Jio's cloud service and other cloud providers regarding price, security, and functionality?

A

Chitranshu: Our company's primary focus is on developing high-quality hardware and operating systems. Therefore, there is no direct comparison between Primebook and any cloud service companies. However, I want our users to know that they have the flexibility to use any cloud service of their choice, such as JIO, Azure, Google, or Amazon, on Primebook. We want to ensure that our users have the freedom to work with the cloud service that best suits their needs.

Q

Rajeev: How do you sell Primebook laptops in India? Do you have any channel network, or do you have your team to sell the laptop?

A

Chitranshu: We sell our laptops through multiple channels in India. We have partnered with Flipkart, our website, channel partners, direct to schools, colleges, coaching centers, and B2G. We also sell our laptops through various e-commerce channels. We believe in making our products easily accessible to our customers and partners.

Q

Rajeev: What will be Primebook goal for the Year 2024 in terms of product launch & revenue target?

A

Chitranshu: I am thrilled to announce that Primebook is launching six new models, all of which are designed to enhance your computing experience. Our new lineup includes models with higher storage than our existing models: the Primebook 5G, which boasts a large screen FHD display, and the Primebook Yoga, which features a 360-degree hinge and touch panel. We are proud to offer these products at a price point under INR 20k, making them accessible to a broader audience. Furthermore, we are targeting INR 200 Cr in revenue, which is a testament to our team's hard work and dedication. Our goal is to continue to innovate and improve our products while maintaining our commitment to affordability and accessibility.
