As India’s education sector increasingly embraces digital learning, the demand for innovative, interactive, and AI-enabled classroom solutions has never been higher. Optoma is meeting this challenge with its Made-in-India IFPDs, designed to empower both students and teachers. In an exclusive conversation, Rajeev Ranjan, Editor of Digital Terminal, spoke with Mr. Vijay Sharma, Managing Director of Optoma Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd., to discuss the company’s latest innovations, the role of AI in education, and its vision for transforming classrooms across India.

Rajeev: How Optoma’s Made-in-India Creative Touch 33-series IFPDs are set to reshape classroom learning?

Vijay: The Optoma Creative Touch 33-series is our latest range of interactive flat panel displays, built right here in India for modern classrooms. It combines advanced features like AI-powered whiteboard tools, OSS InfoBoard for digital notices, and built-in wellness technologies such as low blue light and flicker-free display.

With these panels, classrooms move from one-way teaching to active learning. Students can come up, write directly on the screen, brainstorm with AI sticky notes, or collaborate in groups. Teachers can prepare lessons in advance, teach interactively, and even continue sharing materials after class. And because these panels are made in India, schools benefit from solutions designed for local needs along with faster service and support.

Rajeev: How does the role of AI in improving student–teacher engagement and overall learning outcomes?

Vijay: The Creative Touch 33-series comes with AI-powered tools like handwriting recognition, auto-shape correction, smart note organization, and AI sticky notes. These features are designed to make classrooms more interactive and efficient.

For teachers, they take away repetitive tasks—like redrawing shapes, sorting notes, or manually capturing ideas—so they can focus on teaching. For students, AI makes brainstorming sessions livelier, helps capture ideas instantly, and allows everyone to contribute in group activities. It also adapts to different learning styles, ensuring lessons are more inclusive. In the end, AI bridges the gap between teaching and learning by keeping both teachers and students more engaged and creative.

Rajeev: Why was Gujarat chosen as the manufacturing hub for Optoma’s Make-in-India IFPDs?

Vijay: We chose Gujarat because it offers excellent environment to support large-scale manufacturing. The state has strong infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a growing ecosystem for electronics production. It also gives us strategic access to serve both the Indian market and exports to other regions.

By manufacturing locally in Gujarat, we’re able to reduce our reliance on imports, cut costs, and pass those savings on to customers something especially important in price-sensitive segments like education. At the same time, it aligns with the Make-in-India vision and allows us to respond faster to market needs while ensuring better quality control.

Rajeev: What all investment you are doing to boost your tech support/services to your large customer base across India?

Vijay: Aligning with the Government of India’s highly regarded Make in India initiative, this year Optoma launched its first 'Made-in-India' AI-powered Creative Touch 33-Series Interactive Flat Panel Display—marking a significant milestone in our India strategy.

Manufactured in the state of Gujarat, the new Creative Touch 33-Series IFPDs unlock the potential of connected classroom experiences, making teaching and learning more efficient and creative. They foster better student-teacher engagement and improved outcomes. These newly launched displays feature the latest AI-based enhancements to maximize educational impact.

By offering significant value to our customers, we aim to continue launching futuristic products in the Indian market in the years to come.

Rajeev: How does Optoma balance sustainability, affordability, and advanced technology within its IFP offerings?

Vijay: Optoma IFPDs balance sustainability, affordability, and advanced technology through smart design and local manufacturing. Being Made-in-India keeps them cost-effective while also cutting the carbon footprint of imports. Energy-efficient LED backlighting, automatic brightness control, and sleep mode reduce power use, while replacing multiple devices—like projectors, whiteboards, and speakers—adds to cost savings.

On the technology side, they support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB-C, and OPS slots for seamless integration with classroom tools. AI features such as handwriting-to-text and voice recognition enhance learning, and built-in remote management ensures data security and easy device access for schools.

Rajeev: How do you see the role of channel partners in growing your business in Indian market? Please share brief on your partner network & strength.

Vijay: With the aim of building stronger relationships with local dealers, after operating in India for more thana decade, we opened our head office in New Delhi last year. This strategic expansion is helping us to build a robust channel ecosystem, enabling seamless operations across the country and providing more flexible, comprehensive global services to our partners.

Over the past few years, Optoma has also strengthened its relationships with partners in the country by following fair and transparent policies that ensure healthy margins while maintaining attractive pricing across our entire product range. These partners are the backbone of our operations and have contributed significantly to our growth trajectory. They act as our extended arms, reaching out to diverse customer segments across India.

Our Channel partner’s local presence and strong relationships enable us to access markets that would otherwise be difficult to reach directly. At Optoma, we prioritize offering our partners an equitable share of profits and supporting their growth alongside ours. Throughout the year, we organize workshops, training sessions, meet-and-greets, and large-scale dealer events in cities such as Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Indore, and Kolkata. These events allow us to express gratitude, share strategies, and strengthen our ties with dealers and partners across India.
