Rajesh Garg, Sr. EVP and Chief Digital Officer at Yotta Data Services, shares his significant career achievements, insights on transforming IT into a revenue-generating function, and his approach to staying ahead of emerging technology trends.

DT: What has been the most significant achievement in your career as an IT leader, and how has it shaped your approach to technology leadership?

Rajesh: One of the most significant achievements in my career as an IT leader was setting up one of the largest IT infrastructures for a major consumer finance bank in Japan. The system handled 55 million transactions per month and maintained a database size of 65TB, all with almost 100% uptime. This project also included setting up an "everything as a service" model, covering both applications and cybersecurity. Additionally, I transformed IT from a cost-centric operations to a revenue center, developing new profit centers and revenue streams amounting to around USD 200 million annually. My experience over the past 20+ years has involved overseeing this ongoing delivery management, and I have also been responsible for implementing a high number of ERP systems across various enterprises. These achievements have profoundly shaped my leadership approach by emphasizing the importance of aligning technology with business goals, ensuring operational efficiency while driving significant revenue growth.

DT: Can you describe a pivotal moment or challenge in your professional journey that greatly influenced your career path or leadership style?

Rajesh: A pivotal moment in my professional journey was transforming IT from a cost center into a revenue generator. At one point in my career, I was managing nearly one-third of one of my earlier companyโ€™s operations, generating 40% of the overall revenue and contributing 80% of the companyโ€™s EBITDA. Leading a team of over 800 IT professionals, I was able to drive this transformation successfully. This experience has deeply influenced my leadership style, teaching me how to lead large teams while maintaining focus on both operational efficiency and revenue growth. It highlighted the importance of resilience, adaptability, and clear communication, all of which have become integral to my leadership approach.

DT: What emerging technology trends do you believe will have the biggest impact on the IT industry in the near future, and how are you preparing your organization to adapt to these changes?

Rajesh: Emerging technology trends such as AI, machine learning (ML), edge computing, cloud-native technologies, quantum computing, cybersecurity innovations, and sustainable IT solutions like green data centers are set to have a profound impact on the IT industry. At Yotta, we are preparing for these changes by fostering a culture of innovation and investing in talent development through continuous training. Additionally, we are building strategic partnerships with technology vendors, startups, and research institutions to stay ahead of the curve. A key focus is on improving customer experience, ensuring that all technological advancements contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction. By adopting a proactive and forward-thinking approach, we aim to not only adapt to these emerging trends but also lead by capitalizing on the opportunities they present.
