In this conversation with Rajeev Ranjan, Editor, Digital Terminal, Balaji S, General Manager & Zonal Head – North Zone, Tally Solutions, explains the key differences between Tally on Cloud and TallyPrime Cloud Access, discusses the importance of data security and automated backups, and highlights how Tally supports businesses that need reliable access to their accounting data across locations.
Rajeev: There is considerable confusion in the market about Tally on Cloud and TallyPrime Cloud Access. Are these two the same, or are they different solutions?
Balaji: They are two different things. “Tally on Cloud” is a generic term commonly used in the market, whereas TallyPrime Cloud Access is Tally’s official and recommended cloud solution.
TallyPrime Cloud Access is offered on AWS and Oracle infrastructure, depending on customer requirements. The infrastructure used for this solution meets the relevant requirements described by Tally for its official cloud offering. However, generic cloud services available in the market may differ in their infrastructure, security standards and certifications.
It is important to understand where a cloud solution is deployed and how its infrastructure is managed. Data centre standards, redundancy, security protocols and certifications all contribute to the quality and reliability of a cloud environment. Businesses should therefore evaluate these factors rather than assuming that every service marketed as Tally on Cloud offers the same level of protection.
Rajeev: Why should business owners pay particular attention to the security of their accounting data when choosing a cloud solution?
Balaji: For any business, financial data is extremely important. It is the backbone of the organisation, and if that data is at risk, the entire business can be affected. Being able to access accounting data from anywhere is important, but accessing it safely and securely is equally critical. With generic cloud services, customers may not always know where the infrastructure is deployed or what security measures are in place.
That is why we recommend TallyPrime Cloud Access for businesses that want a trusted and comprehensive cloud solution. Business owners should understand the infrastructure and security provisions behind the service they choose instead of making a decision based only on convenience or accessibility.
Rajeev: What practical benefits does TallyPrime Cloud Access offer to business owners, particularly in terms of data protection and business continuity?
Balaji: There are three important aspects of TallyPrime Cloud Access that stand out. First, customers receive dedicated virtual machines. This means the virtual machine is allocated to a particular customer rather than being shared with other customers in the manner described for some generic cloud arrangements. Second, TallyPrime Cloud Access is based on the Linux platform, which is widely recognised for its security capabilities.
Third, the solution offers automated data backups. With some cloud arrangements, customers may have to manage backups manually. In a busy business environment, it is possible to forget to take a backup or miss it on certain days. Automated backups help reduce this dependence on manual intervention.
These features are particularly important because businesses cannot afford to overlook the consequences of data loss. A virus attack or hardware failure can have serious implications for an organisation. Businesses should therefore prioritise reliable data protection and use genuine, recommended software and services.
Rajeev: What led Tally to introduce TallyPrime Cloud Access, and how has the changing nature of business operations influenced this offering?
Balaji: Tally is used in more than 100 countries, and we continuously work to understand the changing needs of our customers. During the COVID-19 period, businesses increasingly moved towards remote and hybrid working arrangements. Since then, hybrid working has become a normal part of operations for many organisations.
Customers needed a trusted solution that would allow them to access their Tally data securely from anywhere and at any time. At the same time, feedback from the market indicated that not all services being offered under the broad term “Tally on Cloud” provided the level of security and reliability customers expected.
We therefore worked towards developing a comprehensive solution in collaboration with AWS and Oracle. This led to TallyPrime Cloud Access, which was designed around customer requirements for secure and reliable access.
Another important aspect is data location. The data centre infrastructure for TallyPrime Cloud Access is located within India, which is relevant for customers concerned about data residency and applicable regulatory requirements. Our objective is to bring trusted technology to customers at economical prices while helping them manage their businesses more effectively.
Rajeev: What is your message to businesses looking to strengthen data security while making their accounting operations more flexible?
Balaji: Tally has earned the trust of MSMEs and businesses over four decades, and we remain committed to bringing customers reliable technology at affordable prices. We encourage businesses to use genuine software and carefully evaluate the cloud solutions they depend on. Accounting and financial data are critical to business operations, so security, backups and controlled access should be considered essential requirements rather than optional features.
Our goal is to ensure that Indian MSMEs and businesses can benefit from technology that supports their growth while helping them manage their data responsibly. TallyPrime Cloud Access can be summed up in one line: Tally is no longer limited to your office; it can go wherever your business takes you, securely and reliably.
