The security and surveillance industry is undergoing significant transformation, driven by technological advancements and shifting regulatory landscapes. In this context, Sanjeev Sehgal, Founder and CEO of Sparsh CCTV, shares his perspective on the evolving market. In conversation with Rajeev Ranjan, Editor of Digital Terminal, Sanjeev discusses the growing role of cybersecurity, the impact of compliance regulations, and how the industry is adapting to new challenges in 2025."
Rajeev: Could you highlight the three core focus areas where your offerings are currently concentrated?
Sanjeev: Our focus is on extracting more valuable information through these devices. Recently, we launched a CCTV camera integrated with an AQI sensor. This innovative solution allows the camera to capture not just visuals but also environmental data such as temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, and overall air quality index—all through a single device.
Rajeev: How has the growth trajectory been for you in 2024?
Sanjeev: Post-COVID, alongside the Make in India initiative, another significant shift emerged—'No to China.' With increasing concerns over data security and reports of data from surveillance cameras being transmitted to China, cybersecurity compliance has become a major focus in this sector. Over the past four years, we’ve seen tremendous growth. Our turnover has increased sevenfold, and profitability has grown twelvefold. It has indeed been an exciting and transformative period for us.
Looking ahead, with the new compliance regulations set to take effect from April 9—likely leading to the exit of several Chinese brands from the market—we anticipate substantial growth over the next two to three years. Our goal is to emerge as a leading player in this evolving and highly promising landscape.
Rajeev: How do you plan to drive growth and create opportunities for your partners in FY 2025?
Sanjeev: The new compliance regulations take effect from April 9th. Until recently, there was uncertainty about the government's level of enforcement. However, the recent announcement by the second-largest Chinese brand—stating they can no longer supply IPC products—has brought much-needed clarity. This development presents a major growth opportunity for us and our partners. With stricter cybersecurity norms, product costs are expected to rise—potentially by around 30%. Even without a volume increase, this could translate into higher revenues. The year ahead holds significant potential, and we encourage our partners to set ambitious growth targets and capitalize on this momentum.
Rajeev: What is your message for your valued customers using your solutions?
Sanjeev: Sincerely, we thank our customers for their continued trust. Our commitment is to deliver cyber-secure, fully designed and manufactured-in-India products that align with the latest compliance standards, including trusted supply chain and cybersecurity protocols. Our goal is to provide the right solutions—whether to dealers, distributors, or end customers—ensuring they receive actionable insights from our technology. Recently, senior officials from Indian Railways visited us to understand ground-level challenges. As OEMs, we rarely interact directly with end-users, so their perspective was valuable.
What’s clear is that procurement is no longer driven solely by the lowest bid. The government now seeks partners who can deliver intelligent, outcome-based solutions—especially in light of incidents like the unfortunate event at New Delhi Railway Station. Cameras, today, are evolving beyond surveillance—they're becoming intelligent “eyes” on the ground.
With AI integration, they can provide real-time alerts, crowd monitoring, and predictive insights, playing a crucial role in preventing future incidents.
