As the demand for high-performance memory and storage solutions surges, Micron Technology is positioning itself for another year of strong growth. Mr. Rajesh Gupta, Director & Country Manager – India/SAARC Sales, Micron Technology, reflects on the company’s standout performance in 2024, driven by key trends such as AI and gaming, and shares how these trends are fueling the evolution of the semiconductor industry.

Rajeev: How did your business perform in CY 2024? What were the key factors that contributed to this success?

Rajesh: Crucial consumer memory & SSD products were very well received in India market last year. The rise of AI, gaming, non- binary capacities (like 24GB or 48GB etc), over clocking DIMMs & surge in DDR5 adoption helped Crucial DRAM & SSDs to gain solid recognition in the India market.  Crucial was a leader in the tier 1 consumer storage market in India in CY 2024 which could be attributed to the strong legacy of SATA SSDs and growing portfolio of NVMe SSDs catering to all the product line categories, from entry level NVMe SSD to highest performing gaming Gen 5 NVMe SSD.

Crucial P310 allows users to confidently use Gen 4 NVMe SSD for gaming, content creation and other professional use cases with best in class performance and option to add heat sink to operate optimally at higher temperature grades. Crucial T705 Gen 5 NVMe SSD provides record breaking performance for pro level gaming or highest performance use cases like content rendering, AI, etc as per a recent CMR report.

Rajeev: What are your key business objectives for 2025? How do you plan to achieve them?

Rajesh: Micron plans to enhance its product portfolio to help support key AI, HPC, edge computing and next gen use cases with innovative products based on latest 1-beta DRAM and Gen 9 3D NAND. Micron plans to introduce several leading and differentiated products, both SSDs and DRAM, which can help end customers achieve higher performance with smaller footprint and in power efficient manner resulting in lower overall TCO.

Rajeev: What new opportunities do you foresee emerging in your industry?

Rajesh: The semiconductor industry is on the verge of breakout due to AI and gaming demands resulting in increased memory and storage footprint. This is in addition to the DRAM component consumption in HBM for gaming and AI processing. The edge computing and rapid expansion of Data Center would further increase the memory and storage requirements. The extreme consolidation requirement in HPC and data lakes environments would propel the use of 30TB or 60TB TLC NVMe Gen 5 SSDs like Micron 6550 series SSDs, which allow consolidation while maintaining performance levels for mixed workload or unknown workload requirements.

Crucial has also launched a value SSD product namely E100 series that delivers optimized TCO and impressive performance to help consumers migrate from legacy technology to Gen 4 NVMe SSD. During CY 2024, Crucial also introduced P310 M.2 2230 series internal SSDs for handheld gaming devices or space constrained use cases.

Rajeev: What is your current channel strength, and how do you plan to enhance your channel ecosystem in 2025?

Rajesh: Micron’s channel strength lies in its robust network of trusted partners and a deep culture of collaboration. We actively drive engagement through year-round outreach initiatives designed to strengthen our partner relationships. In 2025, we aim to further elevate this ecosystem by expanding training programs and joint events in collaboration with system integrators and value-added resellers. We will also leverage both online and offline platforms to equip our partners with knowledge on emerging technologies and market opportunities in the semiconductor industry, ensuring they are well-prepared to address evolving customer needs.

Rajeev: What new product categories or services are you planning to introduce in 2025?

Rajesh: Crucial plans to launch new record-breaking Gen 5 NVMe SSDs to maintain its leadership in the high-performance segment. Micron will also expand its Gen 5 NVMe SSD portfolio with high-capacity TLC SSDs (30TB & 60TB) that offer optimal performance, lower total cost of ownership, and longer endurance compared to QLC NAND-based offerings from other players. Micron would also expand its MRDIMM portfolio with higher capacities to cater to highest performance use cases in next gen servers.
