DT: What has been the most significant achievement in your career as a CTO, and how has it shaped your approach to technology leadership?
Sandeep: My most significant achievement as CTO was receiving the IDC award for India in December 2023 for transforming our cloud technology into a hybrid environment from a pure cloud environment with Dell Technologies. This recognition brought us accolades, and it also transformed the way we think about technology leadership: simplifying engineering, focusing on new emerging technologies.
My strategy now involves the rapid adoption of new technologies through working with research analysts, identifying trends, and upskilling our teams.
We've also introduced VisionTechFest - a platform where we can partner with academia, research, and startups to rapidly innovate and deliver state-of-the-art solutions for our customers.
DT: Can you describe a pivotal moment or challenge in your professional journey that greatly influenced your career path or leadership style?
Sandeep: There have been many defining moments in my career, spanning over three decades, from delivering complex projects to leading critical technology upskilling initiatives. I started my career as a C/C++ programmer in 1994 and every five years, there was some major tech shift: from the Internet 1.0 to mobile and cloud, and now AI and GenAI. These transitions shaped my leadership style, transitioning myself from delivery to business to COO and finally CTO.
One of the key learnings for me has been the people-first approach to ensure teams and customers integrate seamlessly. My leadership is via teamwork, agility, and metrics-driven to stay ahead of any changes hitting the industry.
DT: What emerging technology trends do you believe will have the biggest impact on the IT industry in the near future, and how are you preparing your organization to adapt to these changes?
Sandeep: We are moving from a mobile-first world to an AI-first world. In my view, some effective trends in the near future will be AI, cybersecurity, and environmental sustainability-ESG. While AI will revolutionize business workflows and customer service, it will also bring in new security risks that raise demands for enhanced cybersecurity. ESG would drive innovation into green technologies such as EVs and Green Data Centers. To this end, we will prepare by investing in AI-driven development, automation, cybersecurity frameworks, and sustainable technologies, ensuring that we are well ahead of these trends.
