Tension gripped the national capital after the Delhi Legislative Assembly received yet another bomb threat via email on Wednesday, triggering heightened security measures during an ongoing and politically significant budget session.
According to official sources, the threatening email was sent in the early hours to the official email ID of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta. The sender claimed that explosive devices had been planted inside the Assembly premises. The message reportedly included provocative remarks and alarming references, raising serious concerns among authorities.
Repeated Threats Raise Serious Security Concerns
This is the second consecutive day such threats have been reported. As per media sources, the Assembly had received two similar emails on Tuesday morning, one at approximately 7:28 AM sent to the general Assembly inbox, followed by another at 7:49 AM addressed directly to the Speaker. These threats had come just hours before Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was scheduled to present the state budget, prompting immediate security action.
Security agencies had already been on high alert since Tuesday, and Wednesdayโs fresh threat further escalated the situation. Officials confirmed that multiple agencies were mobilized to ensure the safety of lawmakers, staff, and visitors within the premises.
Massive Security Drill and Anti-Sabotage Checks
Following the latest email, a comprehensive security sweep was conducted across the Assembly complex. Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units, and teams from the Delhi Police carried out extensive anti-sabotage checks to rule out any real threat.
A senior police official, as quoted by media reports, stated that every threat is being treated with utmost seriousness. Surveillance has been intensified, and entry and exit points are being strictly monitored with reinforced access control protocols.
Cyber Investigation Underway
Authorities have also launched a parallel cyber investigation to trace the origin of the threatening emails. According to media sources, technical teams are analysing email headers, tracking IP addresses, and deploying digital forensics tools to identify the sender and determine whether the threats originated locally or from an external network.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a hoax but emphasized that no risks are being taken given the sensitivity of the location and the timing of the threats.
Heightened Vigil During Critical Session
The incident has once again highlighted vulnerabilities in digital communication channels and the growing trend of anonymous threats targeting high-profile institutions. With the budget session underway, security agencies remain on high alert, ensuring uninterrupted proceedings while safeguarding public representatives.
Further updates are awaited as investigations continue.
