LinkedIn is introducing a new set of verification and identity-focused tools aimed at addressing fake profiles, fabricated employment histories and online impersonation on its professional networking platform. The new features are designed to give users additional ways to establish professional relationships while giving companies greater control over how their organisations are represented on LinkedIn.

As AI-powered tools make it increasingly easy to create convincing identities, generate professional-looking profiles and manipulate digital information, establishing trust online has become a growing challenge for professional networks. LinkedIn said its latest measures are intended to strengthen confidence in the information users encounter on the platform, particularly around employment, education and professional associations.

The company announced the new features as part of its broader efforts to build trust across LinkedIn. Its existing verification programmes have already been adopted by more than 115 million members and over 700,000 companies, according to the company.

Verified Members Can Confirm Professional Connections

LinkedIn is introducing a new feature that allows verified members to vouch for the work or education experience of people they have been connected with. The feature is designed to provide an additional layer of confirmation around a person's professional or academic association and is separate from LinkedIn's existing endorsement system.

To provide a vouch, members must have a verified profile, have been connected with the individual for at least one year and have two-factor authentication enabled. LinkedIn says the feature is intended to help establish whether people genuinely worked or studied together during a particular period.

The move comes as AI tools make it easier to create convincing digital identities and manipulate professional profiles. LinkedIn said its broader verification efforts are aimed at strengthening trust in a platform where professional credibility can influence hiring, business opportunities and career advancement.

Companies Get More Control Over False Employee Claims

LinkedIn is also giving company page administrators additional controls to address profiles that falsely claim an association with their organisations. Administrators can block such profiles from appearing on their company's LinkedIn page and from showing up in relevant search results. The company is also testing a feature that could require users to verify their employment before being associated with a company page.

According to LinkedIn, employment verification could involve using a company email address. If an association is removed, the member's profile itself will not be altered. However, the company page would no longer be clickable from the profile, and the associated work experience would no longer carry LinkedIn's verification status.

The measures are aimed at giving organisations greater visibility and control over how their brands and employee communities are represented on the platform.

LinkedIn Expands Verification Beyond Its Platform

LinkedIn is also expanding its "Verified on LinkedIn" initiative through integrations with third-party platforms. Truecaller is among the latest companies to integrate LinkedIn verification signals. Through the integration, users can connect their LinkedIn profile and display professional information such as their workplace and job title on their Truecaller Caller ID.

LinkedIn verification information can also appear alongside the professional details. The feature has been rolled out to Truecaller users on Android globally, while availability for iPhone is planned for a later stage.

Truecaller Chief Product Officer Kunal Dua said the integration is intended to provide users with additional context when receiving calls from unknown numbers. Users can choose whether to connect their LinkedIn profile and can disconnect the account at any time.

Verification Becomes a Bigger Part of LinkedIn's Trust Strategy

LinkedIn said its existing verification programmes have been used by more than 115 million members and over 700,000 companies. The platform is now expanding these capabilities to address different forms of identity and professional credibility concerns.

The new tools cover several areas, from confirming professional relationships to helping companies address false employment claims and extending verification signals to external services.

As professional networks increasingly become important for recruitment, business development and career opportunities, LinkedIn's latest measures highlight the growing role of identity verification in maintaining trust across digital platforms. The new features are being introduced as part of LinkedIn's ongoing development and availability may vary by user, company and market.
