Kaspersky Highlights 5 Security Gaps Often Missed by Built-In Antivirus

India's relationship with the internet has changed faster than most households have had time to notice. UPI has turned every phone into a bank branch, festive sales have moved entirely online, and everyday tasks, from paying rent to booking a doctor's visit, now happen through a screen. Most users rely on the security software bundled with their device and assume that's protection enough, but as digital life has grown more layered, the threats aimed at it have grown just as quickly.

Here's where Kaspersky steps in to close five gaps worth knowing about.

Real-Time Site Verification: For anyone who banks, shops, or pays bills online

Built-in antivirus tools are generally effective at identifying known, file-based threats, such as a classic virus or an infected download. However, nearly one in four internet users in India encountered a web-based cyber threat last year, with over 47.5 million such threats blocked on Indian computers in 2025 alone, approximately 130,000 a day. Many of today's most damaging threats do not arrive as suspicious files at all; they arrive as convincing fake pages. Kaspersky's Safe Money feature verifies banking, UPI, and shopping sites in real time, adding a dedicated layer of scrutiny that bundled antivirus tools typically don't offer.

Live Anti-Phishing Protection: For staying ahead of scams that change by the hour

Research on financial cyberthreats in 2025 recorded an 83% spike in crypto-related phishing alone, alongside rising financial-threat activity across markets such as India. Bundled antivirus protection typically updates against known threats periodically, but new scam pages can appear and disappear within hours. Kaspersky's real-time anti-phishing checks against a live, continuously updated threat database, offering a level of responsiveness most built-in tools aren't designed to match.

Cross-Channel Threat Detection: For scams that don't stay on one platform

Findings from a 2025 spam and phishing analysis show that scammers increasingly combine channels, starting with an email or message before moving victims to a phone call or messaging app to extract personal information. India recorded multiple "digital arrest" scam cases last year, where fraudsters impersonated authorities across several platforms in sequence. Kaspersky's layered protection flags suspicious activity across that entire chain, something bundled, single-channel antivirus tools generally aren't built to track.

Identity and Data-Leak Monitoring: For knowing before the damage is done

Credential theft targeting Indian networks rose 20% year-on-year in 2025, with over 225,000 such attacks blocked, according to recent industry data. Stolen login details often resurface for sale on the dark web, sometimes remaining usable for months without the account holder's knowledge. Kaspersky's identity and data-leak monitoring is built directly into the same suite that protects the device, alerting users the moment their information surfaces where it shouldn't, without needing a separate tool or service.

Round-the-Clock Human Support: For the moment something actually feels wrong

When a suspicious transaction or unfamiliar login alert appears, bundled antivirus tools generally leave users to search for answers independently. Kaspersky Premium includes 24/7 human support, so there's a real person to call at the moment it's actually needed, rather than only a help forum to consult afterward.

Built-in, bundled protection remains a reasonable baseline, but India's digital threat landscape has grown more sophisticated, more scaled, and more targeted than that baseline was ever designed to handle. Closing that gap doesn't take much, just the right layer of protection in place before it's needed.
