The new functionality could make Instagram profiles more flexible, particularly for users who want to showcase collaborations, events, achievements, or memorable moments shared by others without having to publish the content themselves.

Instagram is rolling out a new feature designed to give users greater control over how tagged content appears on their profiles. The update allows users to add posts in which they have been tagged directly to their own profile grid, while the original post continues to remain on the profile of the person who published it.

The new functionality could make Instagram profiles more flexible, particularly for users who want to showcase collaborations, events, achievements, or memorable moments shared by others without having to publish the content themselves.

Tagged Posts Can Now Appear on Your Profile

Under the new feature, when another Instagram user tags someone in a post, the tagged person can choose to add that post to their own profile grid. This gives users a new way to curate the content visitors see when they open their profile.

Importantly, adding a tagged post to the profile does not transfer ownership of the original post. The content remains hosted on the original creator’s profile, while the tagged user gets an additional display option on their own grid. This distinction allows users to highlight relevant content without creating a duplicate upload.

More Control Over Profile Appearance

Instagram’s latest update also provides flexibility after a tagged post has been added. Users can remove the tagged post from their own profile grid whenever they choose.

Removing it from the grid does not mean that the original post is deleted. Instead, the content simply stops appearing as part of the tagged user’s profile presentation.

The feature could be particularly useful for creators, influencers, professionals and brands that frequently collaborate with other accounts. Instead of manually reposting every collaboration, users can now potentially keep selected tagged content visible alongside their own posts.

A Useful Addition for Creators and Collaborations

Profile grids have increasingly become an important part of how Instagram users present their personal or professional identity. For creators and businesses, the grid can function almost like a visual portfolio.

The new tagged-post option gives users another way to build that portfolio while keeping the original creator connected to the content. It may also reduce the need for screenshots, duplicate uploads or separate reposts simply to make collaborative content visible on a profile.

Instagram Continues to Refine the Profile Experience

The latest change comes as Instagram continues to introduce features aimed at giving users greater control over content, interactions and profile presentation.

By separating ownership of a post from where it can be displayed, Instagram is making tagged content more useful without changing the original post’s source.

For everyday users, the feature offers a simple way to showcase posts they appear in. For creators and brands, it could become a convenient tool for highlighting collaborations and community-generated content while maintaining a cleaner and more curated profile grid.
