India’s iPhone Exports Hit ₹2 Trillion in FY26

The achievement comes at the end of the production-linked incentive cycle, where iPhones alone accounted for more than 75% of India’s total smartphone exports worth ₹2.6 trillion.

India’s electronics manufacturing story has reached a defining moment, with Apple’s iPhone exports emerging as the country’s most powerful branded export success in recent years. In FY26, shipments linked to Apple Inc. are estimated to have touched a record ₹2 trillion, marking a historic shift in India’s role within the global smartphone supply chain.

The achievement comes at the end of the production-linked incentive cycle, where iPhones alone accounted for more than 75% of India’s total smartphone exports worth ₹2.6 trillion. This makes them the single largest branded export category across all major HS code segments, surpassing long-standing export leaders such as diesel fuel, diamonds, and pharmaceuticals.

From negligible exports to global manufacturing hub

Just five years ago, India had almost no meaningful iPhone export base. The transformation has been rapid and structurally significant, driven by policy support under the “Make in India” initiative and the production-linked incentive framework designed to attract high-value electronics manufacturing.

Over this period, Apple’s supply chain has steadily expanded its footprint in India, shifting from limited assembly operations to large-scale export-oriented production. The country has now become one of the key global manufacturing hubs for iPhones, reflecting a broader diversification strategy by Apple away from concentrated production bases.

Supply chain expansion led by Foxconn and Tata Electronics

A critical factor behind this growth has been the scaling of manufacturing partnerships. Key suppliers such as Foxconn and Tata Electronics have significantly expanded production capacity in India to meet global demand.

These manufacturing ecosystems have enabled faster output, improved localization, and stronger export integration. Even amid ongoing global trade uncertainties and geopolitical pressures, iPhone exports from India grew by around 33% in FY26, reinforcing the country’s positioning as a stable and scalable production base.

Jobs surge and workforce transformation

Beyond export numbers, the impact on employment has been equally significant. Apple’s manufacturing ecosystem in India now supports an estimated 250,000 jobs across assembly, logistics, and supplier operations.

A notable feature of this workforce expansion is the high participation of women, who form a majority in several assembly operations. This shift has contributed to broader socio-economic changes in manufacturing regions, where large-scale electronics production has created new employment pathways and skill development opportunities.

Policy push reshapes electronics manufacturing landscape

The success of this export surge is closely tied to India’s production-linked incentive scheme, which encouraged global manufacturers to scale operations locally through financial incentives and infrastructure support. The framework played a central role in attracting Apple’s production ecosystem and accelerating supplier investments in India.

The outcome has positioned India as an increasingly important node in the global electronics value chain, particularly for high-demand consumer devices like smartphones. It also reflects a strategic shift in how global technology companies are diversifying manufacturing footprints to reduce dependency on single-region production hubs.

India’s rising role in global electronics trade

With iPhone exports now leading India’s branded export categories, the country has firmly established itself as a serious player in high-value electronics manufacturing. The shift from minimal production to large-scale global exports within a few years highlights the speed at which manufacturing ecosystems can evolve when policy support, supply chain readiness, and global demand align.

As the PLI phase concludes, the momentum built during this period is expected to influence the next wave of electronics investment in India, potentially extending beyond smartphones into broader categories of advanced hardware manufacturing.
