Apple Raises Prices of MacBooks and iPads in India as Memory Costs Surge

The revised pricing, now reflected on Apple's India website, comes amid rising global memory chip costs and growing demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Apple has significantly increased the prices of several MacBook and iPad models in India, with hikes ranging from ₹10,000 to as much as ₹1 lakh. The revised pricing, now reflected on Apple's India website, comes amid rising global memory chip costs and growing demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The price revision affects multiple MacBook and iPad variants, while iPhone prices remain unchanged for now.

MacBook and iPad Prices See Sharp Increase

Among the products witnessing the steepest increases is the MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5 Max), which has become ₹1 lakh more expensive than its earlier price.

Other major revisions include:

  • MacBook Neo: Increased by ₹10,000, with the base model now priced at ₹79,900.

  • MacBook Air 13-inch (M5): Up by ₹35,000, now available at ₹1,79,900.

  • MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5, 16GB RAM): Increased by ₹70,000, taking its price to ₹2,39,900.

  • iPad Air 11-inch (M4): Up by ₹25,000, now priced at ₹89,900.

  • iPad Pro (256GB, M5): Increased to ₹1,39,900, reflecting a hike of nearly ₹40,000.

The revised prices are now visible across Apple's official online store in India.

Rising Memory Costs Drive Price Revision

The increase follows comments from Apple CEO Tim Cook, who recently indicated that rising memory component costs were putting pressure on product pricing.

Industry reports suggest that prices of high-capacity memory modules have risen sharply over the past several months. Demand for advanced memory chips has accelerated as AI applications, cloud computing, and high-performance computing require significantly larger amounts of RAM and storage.

According to market estimates, prices of certain high-capacity memory chips have increased by more than 60 percent, adding to manufacturing costs for laptop and tablet makers.

AI Boom Reshaping Hardware Costs

Analysts say the rapid expansion of AI technologies has become one of the biggest drivers of memory demand worldwide. AI servers, data centres, and next-generation computing platforms consume substantially more memory than conventional systems, tightening global supply and pushing up component prices.

The trend is affecting hardware manufacturers across the industry, with several companies already revising prices of PCs and enterprise systems in recent months.

iPhone Prices Unchanged for Now

Apple has not announced any price revision for its iPhone lineup in India. However, industry observers believe smartphone prices could also come under pressure if memory costs remain elevated over the coming months.

For consumers planning to purchase Apple devices, the latest revisions mean significantly higher entry prices for premium laptops and tablets, reflecting broader changes in the global semiconductor and AI hardware market.
