Zurich Insurance Group has announced the launch of a new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Hyderabad. The center will play a pivotal role in strengthening Zurich’s worldwide technology infrastructure, accelerating artificial intelligence adoption, and driving digital transformation across its global operations.

The newly established Hyderabad center is designed to become a strategic extension of Zurich’s global operating model rather than a conventional back-office hub. It will take end-to-end ownership across engineering, data, and core business operations while embedding AI-enabled workflows into how solutions are designed, delivered, and scaled worldwide.

Hyderabad GCC to Drive Zurich’s Next Phase of Innovation

The center is expected to support Zurich’s long-term transformation roadmap by creating agile, technology-led capabilities without the constraints of legacy systems. It will also contribute directly to global platforms and enterprise solutions used across markets.

As operations scale, Zurich plans to hire talent in cloud and platform engineering, data and AI, application development, cybersecurity, and quality engineering. This hiring strategy reflects the company’s intent to build a high-value innovation center powered by specialized digital talent.

The move also aligns with a broader industry trend where global companies are leveraging India not only for operational scale, but also for innovation, AI development, cybersecurity leadership, and enterprise modernization.

Amit Kalra to Lead Global Capability Centers

To spearhead this important expansion, Zurich has appointed Amit Kalra as Global Head of Zurich Capability Centers, effective 1 July 2026. In his new role, Kalra will oversee Zurich’s global GCC strategy and lead the development and expansion of the Hyderabad center.

He is an experienced global executive with more than 23 years of leadership experience across insurance, reinsurance, and financial services. Kalra joins Zurich from Swiss Re, where he most recently served as Head of Global Business Solutions. During his nearly two decades with Swiss Re, he held multiple senior leadership positions across strategy, analytics, transformation, and operations.

He has also been actively associated with NASSCOM and the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he serves as an Independent Director at IIRM and adviser to Birla Institute of Management Technology. His background in building large-scale capability centers as strategic business and technology engines is expected to play a crucial role in Zurich’s next growth chapter.

Expressing his enthusiasm in a LinkedIn post, Amit Kalra said, “I’m pleased to share that I will be joining Zurich Insurance Group as Global Head of Zurich Capability Centers, effective 1 July 2026. The role involves global leadership of Zurich’s capability centres worldwide, with responsibility for shaping their strategic direction and building scalable, technology‑ and AI‑led capabilities in alignment with Zurich’s priorities. This includes establishing and leading Zurich’s new Global Capability Center in Hyderabad, India.”

He further added, “The Hyderabad centre will focus on developing technology and AI‑led capabilities with end‑to‑end ownership across engineering, data and core business operations, embedding AI‑enabled ways of working into how solutions are designed, delivered and scaled globally. As I prepare to take on this role, I do so with a strong sense of purpose and optimism. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues across Zurich globally to help deliver meaningful and lasting impact for the group.”

While welcoming Amit Kalra to the group, Cara Morton, CEO Global Businesses & Operations, Zurich Insurance Group commented on his post saying, “Amit Kalra we are so pleased that you decided to join us - we look very much forward to welcoming you in July.”

India Strengthens Position as Preferred GCC Destination

Zurich’s investment highlights the growing importance of India in the global GCC landscape. Multinational enterprises are increasingly choosing India not only for scale and efficiency, but also for advanced engineering talent, product innovation, analytics, cybersecurity, and AI expertise.

Hyderabad continues to emerge as one of the country’s leading GCC destinations due to its strong technology ecosystem, mature infrastructure, skilled workforce, and presence of major multinational companies.

The launch of Zurich’s new center further strengthens Hyderabad’s standing as a strategic destination for global business transformation.
