Tata Electronics and FUJIFILM Corporation, a global semiconductor materials company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate semiconductor materials ecosystem development in India. Through this collaboration, Fujifilm will leverage its global expertise to develop and supply advanced semiconductor materials tailored to the requirements of Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat. The strategic partnership is aligned with India’s vision of becoming a leading player in the global semiconductor manufacturing value chain.

Through this partnership, Fujifilm will be among the first movers in developing the semiconductor materials ecosystem in Dholera, Gujarat. Fujifilm and Tata Electronics are committed to enhancing India’s supply chain resilience, by localizing the development of critical raw materials needed for semiconductor fabrication. The partnership will support Indian chemical manufacturers with technology, quality assurance and manufacturing process knowhow to facilitate the manufacture of high-purity chemicals.

Fujifilm will also strategically invest approximately INR 800 Crores (~ US$ 83 Million) to establish a semiconductor materials plant in Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in phases, to ensure seamless availability and movement of materials for India’s first commercial Fab being built by Tata Electronics.

Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD, Tata Electronics, said, "Tata Electronics is committed to building a resilient, world-class semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India. Our strategic partnership with Fujifilm marks an important step in strengthening the semiconductor materials supply chain for our Dholera Fab. By combining Fujifilm's expertise in advanced semiconductor materials with Tata Electronics' vision of creating a robust manufacturing base, we are enhancing supply chain resilience for our global customers, accelerating ecosystem development, and supporting India's ambition to become a trusted global hub for semiconductor manufacturing. This will go a long way in building the foundation for a secure semiconductor value chain serving customers in India and around the world."

Mr. Teiichi Goto, President, Representative Director & Chief Executive Officer, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, Japan, said, “Fujifilm positions its semiconductor materials business as a key growth driver for Fujifilm Group and recognizes India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor market as a critical opportunity for further business expansion. We are confident that the partnership between Tata Electronics, a leader in shaping the semiconductor ecosystem in India, and Fujifilm, with its comprehensive range of semiconductor materials spanning the semiconductor manufacturing process from front-end to back-end, will play a pivotal role in advancing the country's semiconductor industry.”

Mr. Tetsuya Iwasaki, Director, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Electronic Materials Business Division, FUJIFILM Corporation, added, “We are honored to support India’s vision of strengthening its advanced manufacturing and technology capabilities through this partnership.  Fujifilm offers a wide range of materials used throughout the entire semiconductor manufacturing process, from front-end to back-end. These materials include photoresists, photolithography-related materials, CMP slurries, post-CMP cleaners, thin-film materials, photosensitive insulating materials such as polyimides under the ZEMATES™ brand, and high-purity process chemicals. Fujifilm also provides Wave Control Mosaic™, a group of functional materials including color filter materials for image sensors. I am sure this partnership will help us develop a good semiconductor materials ecosystem in India.”

Tata Electronics is building the Dholera Fab at a total investment of INR 91,000 crores (~US$11bn). The 300 mm (12 inch) Fab will produce semiconductor chips across 28nm to 110nm technology nodes, for various applications, such as automotive, consumer electronics, computing and data storage, wireless communications, and artificial intelligence (AI). The construction of this facility is proceeding at a rapid pace, and strategic associations with prominent ecosystem partners such as Fujifilm will play a critical role in developing a leadership position for Tata Electronics in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.

Fujifilm will continue to contribute to the development of the semiconductor industry by providing one-stop solutions through its broad product lineup that encompasses almost all areas of the semiconductor manufacturing process from cutting-edge to legacy nodes, as well as by leveraging its global, stable supply system with manufacturing bases in major countries like Japan, the United States, Europe and Asia, along with its advanced research and development capabilities.
