The rise of Generative AI is significantly transforming data center infrastructure, driving a surge in demand for advanced facilities. In response, Sridhar Pinnapureddy, founder and CEO of CtrlS & Cloud4C, has announced an ambitious expansion plan in Kolkata.
CtrlS plans to invest ₹2,200 crore to expand its greenfield data center campus in the New Town region. The project will be implemented over four phases, ultimately offering an IT load capacity of 60 MW. This expansion is expected to create over 1,200 job opportunities and support IT, software development, application services, and administration.
Pinnapureddy announced on LinkedIn, “The first building of the datacenter —DC1—campus is scheduled to go live in the next few months, with an IT load capacity of 16MW and a built-up area of over 90,000 sq. ft.” The new Kolkata campus will have AI-embedded into it that will help the company ensure safety from disasters. Pinnapureddy adds, “The new Kolkata campus will feature AI-ready datacenters, a wide range of modern cooling technologies, and 9-zone security, and is built to Seismic Zone 3 standards to be natural disaster-proof.”
The new facility is set to become the first Rated-4 data center in eastern India, significantly contributing to the region’s digital transformation. With the addition of the Kolkata site, CtrlS will operate a total of 16 data centers in India, with plans to launch at least five more during this financial year.
Top companies such as TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), Adani Enterprises, and Reliance Industries (RIL) have already received land allocations with subsidies for their projects. The foundation stone for the Kolkata project was laid by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in August 2018.
