Alcatel is set to relaunch its smartphone in India, marking a significant step toward bolstering the country’s tech self-reliance and manufacturing capabilities. The major development for India’s mobile phone market comes alongside the confirmation of key technology agreements and plans to establish local manufacturing operations, in line with India’s “Make in India” and “Digital India” missions.
“I am thrilled to announce the launch of 'Alcatel' smartphones in India,” posted Madhav Sheth, Founder and Tech Advisor of Alcatel India Official, in a recent post on his LinkedIn handle. “I will be working closely with the Nxtcell team to spearhead technology transfer, foster patent-driven innovation, and ensure that local manufacturing aligns with India’s vision for tech self-reliance.”
“We have successfully signed technology agreements, and our local manufacturing initiatives are poised to significantly boost India’s tech ecosystem and enhance exports.”
The initiative is being led in close collaboration with Nxtcell, a strategic partner responsible for spearheading technology transfers, patent-led innovation, and compliance with India's local manufacturing goals. This move will not only revitalize the Alcatel brand in India but also stimulate healthy competition in the affordable smartphone segment.
Alcatel operates under TCL Communications under a licensing agreement from Nokia, is now making a comeback with a variety of smartphones, including high-end models and phones with stylus support, according to digit.in report. With technology transfer agreements already in place, Alcatel’s return to the Indian market is strategically aligned to support domestic production. The local manufacturing setup is expected to contribute meaningfully to the Indian electronics supply chain and offer job opportunities.
