YouTube has officially launched Hype, a brand-new feature designed to support small and mid‑sized creators across India, helping them get discovered by new audiences.
What is Hype?
Hype is a fan-powered discovery tool that lets viewers “hype” videos from creators who have between 500 and 500,000 subscribers. This hype window stays open for the first 7 days after a video goes live, and each viewer can hype up to three videos per week—totally free.
The more hype a video receives, the more points it earns. These points help it climb the Top 100 weekly leaderboard, which is featured in YouTube’s Explore section. Top-performing videos could also be promoted on the YouTube Home feed, giving creators a major visibility boost. Creators whose videos make it to the leaderboard will also get a special badge, signaling them as fan favorites.
Leveling the Playing Field with Bonus Points
To ensure fairness, Hype comes with a Small Creator Bonus. This means creators with fewer subscribers earn extra points per hype, giving them a better chance to shine alongside more established names.

Before coming to India, Hype was tested in Turkey, Taiwan, and Brazil. In just four weeks, users there gave more than 5 million hypes to over 50,000 unique channels. The response proved how powerful Hype can be in surfacing underrepresented voices.
