A fresh controversy has emerged around Diljit Dosanjh's film Satluj after its user rating was removed from IMDb, days after the film reportedly disappeared from streaming platform ZEE5. The development has sparked criticism from filmmakers, writers and audiences, with many questioning the transparency and reliability of IMDb's rating system.
Until recently, Satluj was displaying a user rating of around 9.5 on IMDb, making it one of the highest-rated Indian films on the platform. However, the rating has now disappeared from the film's listing without any public explanation, triggering widespread debate across social media.
Filmmakers Question IMDb's Transparency
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta criticized the move on X, questioning the credibility of IMDb's rating mechanism.
"Yesterday it was 9.5, and today the rating has disappeared. I have never really relied on IMDb ratings, but this certainly raises questions about how reliable the system actually is," Gupta wrote.
His comments quickly gained traction online, with several users echoing similar concerns over the sudden removal of the rating.
Co-Writer Says No Explanation Was Given
Niren Bhatt, co-writer of Satluj, also expressed disappointment over the lack of clarity surrounding the development.
Speaking to media, Bhatt said the team itself was unaware of why the rating had been removed, adding that neither the filmmakers nor the audience had received any explanation.
He further noted that the film had already faced uncertainty regarding its release and subsequent removal from its streaming platform, making the latest development even more confusing.
Bhatt also emphasized that if there were any concerns regarding the film, they should be communicated transparently rather than leaving audiences and creators guessing.
Fans Rally Behind the Film
The removal of the rating has also triggered strong reactions from viewers. Several users shared screenshots showing Satluj carrying ratings between 9.5 and 9.6 before they disappeared from IMDb.
Many fans argued that thousands of user reviews had reflected genuine audience appreciation and questioned why the platform removed the rating without issuing any clarification.
Posts supporting the film quickly spread across social media, with users calling for greater transparency in IMDb's moderation and rating policies.
Questions Remain Unanswered
Neither IMDb nor Amazon, which owns the platform, has publicly commented on why the rating was removed.
The incident has added another chapter to the ongoing discussions surrounding Satluj, with filmmakers and audiences now seeking greater transparency from digital platforms regarding both content availability and user-generated ratings.
