The excitement around Yash’s much-awaited action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is already translating into strong ticket sales ahead of its theatrical release. Scheduled to arrive worldwide on August 26, the film has registered an impressive response in advance bookings and is now eyeing a big opening at the Indian box office.
According to advance booking figures cited in reports, Toxic has generated an estimated Rs 10.94 crore in gross advance sales for its opening day in India. When blocked seats are included, the figure rises to around Rs 18.27 crore, bringing the film within striking distance of the Rs 20 crore mark even before release.
Karnataka Leads the Advance Booking Race
The Kannada version is currently leading the film’s advance sales, contributing around Rs 7.20 crore in gross bookings. The Hindi version has also recorded a strong response with approximately Rs 3.70 crore, while the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions are adding further momentum.
Karnataka, Yash’s home market, has emerged as the biggest contributor to the film’s opening-day bookings, recording an estimated gross of around Rs 7.28 crore. The strong response reflects the actor’s massive popularity in the region and the anticipation surrounding his return to the big screen after the success of the KGF franchise.
Gujarat and Delhi are also showing encouraging traction. Gujarat has recorded an estimated gross of around Rs 1.07 crore, including blocked seats, while Delhi has contributed approximately Rs 93 lakh.
Toxic Builds Momentum Overseas
The advance booking buzz is also visible in international markets, particularly in the US. According to figures tracked by Venky Box Office, Toxic has recorded around $163,150 in advance sales for its US premieres.
The figures cover 260 locations and 709 shows, with around 7,545 tickets sold so far. While the current pace is reportedly below the pre-release trajectory of Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2, the comparison may not be definitive at this stage as bookings are yet to open across all major cinema chains and international markets.
With more shows and locations expected to become available, the overseas advance sales could see further growth closer to release.
Yash Returns in a Darker Avatar
Adding to the curiosity around Toxic is its darker and more mature positioning. The film has received an ‘A’ certificate in India, restricting theatrical admission to adult audiences.
In the UK, the film has reportedly received an 18 rating, with the classification taking into account themes and sequences involving threats, drugs, sexual violence and self-harm.
Directed as an action thriller for mature audiences, Toxic has created considerable pre-release interest around Yash’s performance, the film’s darker world and its action-packed presentation. The strong advance bookings indicate that the buzz has already translated into significant audience interest.
Rs 20 Crore Opening in Sight
With advance sales nearing Rs 20 crore when blocked seats are included, Toxic has made a strong start even before its first show. The next big test will be whether the pre-release excitement translates into packed theatres when the film opens worldwide on August 26.
If the current booking momentum continues and last-minute ticket sales pick up further, Yash’s Toxic could be headed for a powerful opening at the box office.
