A cattle herder was injured after being attacked by a sub-adult Asiatic lion in Garajiya village of Palitana taluka in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district on Monday, forest officials confirmed.
The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media, highlighting the increasing instances of human-wildlife encounters in the region.
Lion Attacks While Herding Cattle
The victim, identified as Kalubhai Parmar, had reportedly gone to feed his cattle on Monday morning when the lion attacked him.
The viral video shows the big cat gripping Parmar's arm in its jaws as he lay on the ground, while bystanders desperately attempted to scare the animal away and rescue him.
Rescued by Locals
People present at the scene rushed to help the injured herder, driving the lion away before shifting him for medical treatment.
Forest officials said Parmar sustained injuries in the attack, though further details about his condition were not immediately available.
Human-Wildlife Conflict Remains a Concern
Bhavnagar and other parts of Gujarat frequently witness the movement of Asiatic lions outside protected forest areas, leading to occasional encounters with local residents and livestock.
Forest authorities continue to monitor lion movements and advise villagers to remain cautious, especially in areas where the big cats are known to roam.
