Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a six-day diplomatic tour of Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6, aimed at strengthening India's strategic partnerships and expanding cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region. The visit underscores New Delhi's continued focus on enhancing bilateral ties, regional connectivity, trade, and people-to-people engagement.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that the Prime Minister's first stop will be Indonesia, where he will remain from July 6 to July 8 before continuing to Australia and New Zealand.
Indonesia Visit to Focus on Strategic Partnership
According to Rudrendra Tandon, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, this will be Prime Minister Modi's fourth visit to Indonesia and his first bilateral visit since India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The leaders are expected to review progress across key sectors, including trade, defence, maritime security, connectivity, digital cooperation, and regional issues.
Jakarta and Yogyakarta on Prime Minister's Itinerary
The Prime Minister's primary engagements will take place in Jakarta, where he will also address a large gathering of the Indian diaspora, highlighting India's growing engagement with overseas communities.
In addition to official meetings in the capital, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Yogyakarta, one of Indonesia's most culturally significant cities, known for its rich heritage and historical landmarks. The visit reflects the emphasis both nations place on strengthening cultural and civilizational ties alongside strategic cooperation.
Strengthening India's Indo-Pacific Engagement
The broader three-nation tour is expected to reinforce India's commitment to the Indo-Pacific and deepen cooperation with key regional partners. Indonesia remains an important strategic partner for India, particularly in maritime security, ASEAN engagement, economic cooperation, and regional stability.
The subsequent visits to Australia and New Zealand are also expected to focus on expanding collaboration in areas such as trade, technology, education, clean energy, defence, and investment.
Prime Minister Modi's overseas visit comes as India continues to strengthen its diplomatic footprint across the Indo-Pacific while enhancing partnerships with like-minded nations in support of regional peace, economic growth, and global cooperation.
