A tragic incident at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi has sparked serious concerns over public healthcare infrastructure after a 42-year-old patient died hours after a ceiling fan reportedly fell on him while he was receiving treatment in the emergency ward.
The patient, identified as Md Akbar, had been admitted to the hospital on July 18 after being brought in by his brother. According to hospital staff familiar with the case, Akbar was undergoing treatment for hypertension, meningoencephalitis, and aspiration pneumonia when the incident occurred on Saturday night.
Ceiling Fan Collapses During Treatment
According to initial reports, the ceiling fan detached and fell onto the patient while he was lying in the emergency department. The incident caused injuries, and despite medical attention, Akbar died within hours.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the injuries caused by the falling fan directly led to the patient's death. The exact cause will be determined through the ongoing investigation and medical examination.
