The annual Amarnath Yatra commenced on a spiritually vibrant note as 12,168 pilgrims offered prayers at the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir on the first day of the pilgrimage. Despite intermittent rainfall, thousands of devotees successfully completed the journey, marking the beginning of one of India's most revered religious pilgrimages.

Pilgrimage Begins from Baltal and Pahalgam Routes

The Yatra officially began from the twin base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam, with pilgrims setting out in the early hours under elaborate security and administrative arrangements.

Devotees undertook the pilgrimage via the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwanโ€“Pahalgam route as well as the 14-kilometre Baltal route, both leading to the Holy Cave Shrine situated at an altitude of 3,880 metres in the Himalayas.

Devotees Brave Rainfall to Seek Blessings

Undeterred by intermittent rain, men, women, elderly pilgrims, and sadhus continued their journey while chanting "Bum Bum Bhole", creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere along both trekking routes.

The first batch of pilgrims was flagged off from the base camps by the respective Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police, reflecting the coordinated efforts of civil administration and security agencies to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage.

Extensive Arrangements for Safe Yatra

Authorities have put in place comprehensive security, medical, transport, and disaster management measures to facilitate the annual pilgrimage. Multiple agencies are working together to provide healthcare services, weather monitoring, emergency response, and logistical support for devotees throughout the Yatra.

The Amarnath Yatra attracts lakhs of pilgrims every year, who undertake the challenging trek to seek blessings at the naturally formed ice Shivling inside the sacred cave.

With a strong turnout on the opening day, officials expect the number of pilgrims to increase steadily in the coming weeks as the annual pilgrimage continues.
