An Omani co-pilot accused of attempting to crash an Israel-bound flydubai flight and attacking his Indian co-pilot reportedly told investigators that he was acting in “revenge for Gaza” and wanted to “die as a martyr,” according to Israeli media reports.
Co-Pilot Questioned Over Alleged Attempt to Crash Flight
The co-pilot, identified as 29-year-old Hamam al-Hammami, is reported to have made the statements during questioning following the incident.
According to reports cited by The Times of Israel, based on information attributed to Israel’s Channel 12, investigators were examining his alleged actions and the motivation behind them.
The reported comments have become a central part of the investigation into the incident involving the flydubai flight travelling toward Israel.
Mossad Examining Possible Overseas Contacts
Israeli intelligence officials are also reportedly investigating al-Hammami’s previous international travel.
A Mossad representative told Israeli ministers that the co-pilot had briefly travelled to countries described as hostile to Israel in recent years. Investigators are examining whether he may have encountered or been approached by an individual or organisation during those visits.
The possibility of outside involvement remains part of the investigation and has not been established as fact.
Investigation Continues
Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged cockpit attack and reported attempt to bring down the aircraft. The investigation is expected to focus on the co-pilot’s actions, his stated motivation and whether any other individuals or organisations played a role.
The reported statements about Gaza and martyrdom are claims attributed to the investigation and media reports, rather than an independently established explanation of the incident. Further findings from investigators will be important in determining the full circumstances behind the episode.
