The National Testing Agency has officially announced that the re-examination for NEET-UG 2026 will be conducted on June 21, 2026, following the cancellation of the earlier examination amid allegations of irregularities and paper leaks.
The decision brings clarity for more than 22 lakh medical aspirants across the country who had been waiting for a revised schedule after the original NEET-UG examination held on May 3, 2026, was cancelled earlier this month.
NTA Announces Fresh Examination Date
The NTA confirmed the revised examination date through its official communication channels on Friday, stating that the re-exam will be conducted on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with the approval of the Government of India.
According to the agency, the move is aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness and integrity in one of Indiaโs largest and most competitive entrance examinations.
The announcement comes days after the NTA officially cancelled the May 3 examination on May 12 following allegations linked to a possible paper leak and examination irregularities.
Cancellation Triggered Massive Uncertainty Among Aspirants
The cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 had created widespread uncertainty among students, parents and coaching institutions across the country.
With over 22 lakh candidates appearing for the examination annually, NEET-UG remains the primary gateway for admissions into undergraduate medical programs across India.
The controversy surrounding the examination once again intensified national discussions around examination security, digital monitoring systems and the need for stronger safeguards in large-scale competitive tests.
CBI Inquiry Underway Into Alleged Irregularities
Following the cancellation of the examination, the Government had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities connected with the exam process.
The investigation is expected to examine allegations related to paper leaks, unauthorized access and potential lapses in examination management systems.
The development comes at a time when multiple competitive examinations across India have faced disruptions, postponements or cancellations in recent months due to technical issues, operational failures and allegations of malpractice.
NTA Advises Students to Follow Official Channels Only
The NTA has advised candidates and parents to rely exclusively on official communication channels for authentic updates regarding admit cards, examination centres, reporting time and revised instructions.
Detailed examination guidelines are expected to be released shortly on the official NTA website.
Candidates seeking clarification or support can contact the agency through its official helpline numbers 011-40759000 and 011-69227700, or via email at neet-ug@nta.ac.in.
Pressure Mounts for Stronger Examination Reforms
The NEET-UG controversy has once again highlighted the growing need for stronger examination governance, secure digital infrastructure and enhanced accountability mechanisms in Indiaโs competitive examination ecosystem.
Education experts and stakeholders have increasingly emphasized the importance of technology-led monitoring systems, stricter enforcement measures and improved coordination between examination authorities and law enforcement agencies to prevent future disruptions.
With the re-examination now scheduled for June 21, attention will remain focused on how authorities ensure a smooth, transparent and credible examination process for lakhs of aspirants across the country.
