Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s talismanic batter Virat Kohli once again delivered a masterclass under pressure, dismantling Kolkata Knight Riders with a stunning unbeaten century at Raipur on Wednesday. The knock marked his ninth Indian Premier League hundred, further extending his legacy as one of the most prolific batters in the tournament’s history.
Kohli brought up his first century of the season in just 58 deliveries, showcasing a blend of timing, precision, and controlled aggression. His innings of 105 not out was built on 10 boundaries and 3 towering sixes, anchoring RCB’s dominant chase and steering them to a commanding victory that strengthened their position at the top of the points table and brought them closer to a playoff berth.
The RCB star reached his half-century in 32 balls before accelerating seamlessly, ensuring the opposition never regained control of the contest. His innings once again underlined his reputation for delivering in high-stakes encounters, particularly against Kolkata Knight Riders, a side he has historically enjoyed success against.
With this knock, Kohli now holds the record for the most centuries in IPL history, moving ahead of Jos Buttler, who stands second with seven hundreds. He also climbed further up the global T20 charts, equalling the third position for most centuries in the format with 10, behind Chris Gayle, who leads with 22, and Babar Azam, who has 13.
In addition to his century, Kohli also crossed the significant milestone of 14,000 runs in T20 cricket, further cementing his status as one of the format’s most consistent and enduring performers.
Earlier in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders had set up a competitive total of 192 for 4 after being put in to bat in a rain-affected encounter. Young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi stood out with a fluent career-best innings of 71 off 46 deliveries, anchoring KKR’s innings with maturity and composure.
His knock included three sixes and seven boundaries, and he played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings after KKR’s top order failed to build early momentum. Raghuvanshi also stitched key partnerships in the middle overs, ensuring KKR posted a challenging total despite early setbacks.
However, the effort ultimately proved insufficient as Kohli’s commanding century overshadowed KKR’s batting effort and sealed a memorable night for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
