The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a resolution proposing to rename Noida International Airport at Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday.
The decision marks a significant development for the airport project, which is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradeshโs aviation infrastructure and improve connectivity across the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.
UP Cabinet Approves Airport Renaming Proposal
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the Council of Ministers had expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of the Noida International Airport at Jewar.
According to the chief minister, the Cabinet approved the proposal to name the airport Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar.
The resolution represents the state government's decision on the proposed name. Any further formalities required to implement the renaming would depend on the applicable approval process.
Jewar Airport Expected to Become Major Aviation Hub
Located in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Noida International Airport is a major infrastructure project aimed at expanding aviation capacity in Uttar Pradesh.
The airport is expected to become one of the state's largest aviation facilities and play an important role in improving passenger connectivity, supporting cargo operations and strengthening regional economic activity.
Its development is also expected to support businesses, logistics networks, tourism and employment opportunities across the surrounding region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport's first phase in March 2026, marking a key milestone in the project's development.
Cabinet Also Recognises Modiโs 25 Years in Public Office
The airport naming proposal came alongside another resolution by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet recognising Narendra Modi's completion of 25 years in continuous public service as the head of a government.
Adityanath described October 7 as a significant chapter in the country's history, referring to Modi's journey as chief minister and prime minister.
The two resolutions reflect the state government's recognition of the Prime Minister's tenure and the infrastructure development associated with the airport project.
