Madhya Pradesh is positioning Gwalior as a new hub for telecom equipment manufacturing, with 24 companies proposing investments of around ₹5,500 crore in a dedicated Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ). The planned development is expected to bring together manufacturers, component suppliers, technology firms and MSMEs while creating nearly 18,000 employment opportunities.
24 Companies Line Up Investments Worth ₹5,500 Crore
The proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone is expected to accommodate around 24–25 manufacturing units working across telecom equipment and related products. Collectively, the proposed investments are estimated at approximately ₹5,500 crore, indicating significant industry interest in establishing manufacturing operations in the region.
The project is also projected to generate around 18,000 jobs, potentially giving a major boost to local employment while expanding the industrial ecosystem around telecom and electronics manufacturing.
170 Acres Identified for the Telecom Hub
The TMZ is planned across the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) and the adjoining IT Park in Gwalior. Approximately 170 acres of land have been identified for the development.
Interest from prospective investors has reportedly gone beyond the currently available land, suggesting that the proposed zone could see further expansion as additional companies explore opportunities within the planned manufacturing ecosystem.
Building a Connected Telecom Manufacturing Ecosystem
Rather than functioning solely as a cluster of individual factories, the proposed zone is intended to bring different parts of the telecom value chain closer together.
Manufacturers of telecom equipment, technology companies, component suppliers, MSMEs and other supporting businesses are expected to operate within the broader ecosystem. Such clustering can help companies access suppliers, technical capabilities and supporting infrastructure more efficiently while encouraging collaboration across the industry.
For India, strengthening domestic telecom manufacturing is also closely linked with the country's broader ambitions around electronics production, digital infrastructure and next-generation connectivity.
Gwalior’s Role in India’s Future Telecom Manufacturing
The Telecom Manufacturing Zone initiative follows an MoU signed between the Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government in July 2026. The agreement provides the foundation for developing the dedicated manufacturing zone in Gwalior.
The initiative comes as India continues to focus on expanding its domestic capabilities in telecom equipment and reducing dependence on overseas supply chains. Beyond current-generation network infrastructure, the development is also expected to support the country's longer-term ambitions around emerging technologies, including 6G.
If the proposed investments translate into operational manufacturing facilities, Gwalior could gain a larger role in India's telecom hardware ecosystem while creating new opportunities for suppliers, MSMEs and technology companies.
