In a major relief for businesses dependent on commercial cooking fuel, the Government of India has removed all sector-specific restrictions on the supply of Non-Domestic Packed Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), restoring allocations to levels that existed before the West Asia crisis disrupted global energy supplies.
The decision is expected to benefit a wide range of commercial and industrial consumers, including hotels, restaurants, food processing units, and manufacturing industries that rely on LPG for daily operations.
Commercial LPG Supply Returns to Normal
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced that supplies of Non-Domestic Packed LPG have been fully restored following an improvement in both domestic production and imported LPG availability.
In addition, restrictions on bulk LPG supplies have also been eased. Industries that had faced severe supply cuts during the crisis will now receive up to 50 percent of their pre-crisis bulk LPG allocations, providing significant operational relief.
The ministry said the decision reflects improving market conditions and a more stable supply outlook.
Restrictions Introduced During West Asia Tensions
The curbs were introduced after geopolitical tensions in West Asia threatened global LPG supplies. Since India imports nearly 90 percent of its LPG requirements from the region, the government had prioritized household cooking gas to ensure uninterrupted domestic availability.
To boost LPG production, authorities invoked provisions under the Essential Commodities Act, directing refineries to divert C3 and C4 hydrocarbon streams from petrochemical production toward LPG manufacturing. Commercial users, including hotels, restaurants, and industrial units, were asked to reduce consumption as supplies were redirected to households.
Improved Supply Allows Policy Rollback
According to the ministry, stronger domestic LPG production and increased availability of imported cargoes have enabled the government to gradually reverse the emergency measures.
The diversion of C3 and C4 streams for LPG production has now been reduced, allowing greater availability of these feedstocks for petrochemical and downstream industries. However, officials clarified that the changes will be implemented without affecting domestic cooking gas availability.
The government has also stated that indigenous LPG production will continue to remain above 40 thousand metric tonnes per day, ensuring adequate supplies for residential consumers while supporting industrial demand.
Boost for Industry and Hospitality Sector
The restoration of commercial LPG supplies is expected to ease operational challenges for businesses that were forced to manage reduced fuel allocations over the past several months.
Industry experts believe the move will help improve production planning, reduce supply uncertainty, and support sectors such as hospitality, food services, manufacturing, and small businesses that depend heavily on LPG for their operations.

The government's latest decision marks a transition from emergency energy management toward supply normalization.
