In a significant development in the alleged child abuse case at a daycare centre operating inside Capgemini's Brookefield campus in Bengaluru, city police have arrested the first accused in connection with the alleged assault of toddlers.
The arrested caretaker, Vijayalakshmi, was taken into custody on Friday after investigators confirmed that she was the individual seen in a viral video allegedly physically abusing children at the daycare facility.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over child safety standards at corporate daycare centres and prompted a police investigation into the facility's operations.
Five Caretakers Booked in the Case
According to the police, five caretakers have been booked in connection with the alleged abuse. Authorities launched an investigation after videos purportedly showing toddlers being mistreated circulated on social media.
Following verification of the footage, investigators identified Vijayalakshmi as one of the individuals involved, leading to her arrest. Efforts are underway to locate and question the remaining accused.
Charges Filed Under BNS and Juvenile Justice Act
The Bengaluru Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The legal provisions are intended to address offences involving cruelty towards children and ensure accountability for those responsible for their care and protection.
Corporate Daycare Safety Under Spotlight
The incident has renewed discussions around the monitoring and regulation of daycare facilities operating within corporate campuses. As more companies provide childcare services for employees, experts have emphasized the need for strict background verification of caregivers, continuous CCTV monitoring, staff training, and regular compliance audits.
Parents and child welfare advocates have also called for stronger oversight to ensure the safety and well-being of young children entrusted to such facilities.
Investigation Continues
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the alleged abuse and examine whether there were any lapses in supervision or management at the daycare centre. Authorities are also reviewing available CCTV footage and recording statements from parents, staff members, and other witnesses.
