A tragic crocodile attack in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy after the reptile allegedly dragged him into the Ghaghara River while he was near the riverbank. The incident occurred when the child had gone towards the river, and despite desperate attempts by family members to save him, the crocodile pulled him into the water.

According to initial reports, the boy's uncle rushed to rescue him after witnessing the attack. However, the crocodile overpowered the child and disappeared into the river before he could be saved.

Rescue Operation Ends in Tragedy

Following the incident, local police and officials from the Forest Department launched a search operation in the river. After several hours of search efforts, the child's body was recovered later in the evening.

The incident has triggered fear among residents living near the Ghaghara River, where crocodile sightings have occasionally been reported. Authorities have urged people to remain cautious while visiting riverbanks, especially in areas known to be inhabited by wild animals.

Viral Video Raises Public Concern

A video allegedly showing the crocodile with the victim surfaced on social media after the incident, drawing widespread attention online. Authorities have not commented on the authenticity of the footage, but the incident has renewed concerns over human-wildlife conflict in riverine regions.

Wildlife experts note that crocodile encounters become more likely in habitats where rivers, wetlands, and human settlements overlap. They advise residents to avoid entering or lingering near water bodies in vulnerable areas, particularly during early morning and evening hours.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for stronger awareness campaigns, warning signage, and preventive safety measures in crocodile-prone regions to reduce the risk of similar tragedies in the future.
