Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industry is all prepared to set up the largest data center in the world in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. The strategic move is part of Reliance’s exertion to foray into the field of Artificial Intelligence. The brand focuses on the three gigawatts capacity to capitalize on the increasing demand for AI technology.

The reports circulating in the media suggest that the firm has started sourcing AI semiconductors from Nvidia. Also, Nvidia at last year’s AI Summit, talked about these plans with Mukesh Ambani which is now taking place. Nvidia is set to supply Blackwell AI processors to support Reliance’s plan for a one-gigawatt data center.

During the conversation, Jensen Huang, President, Co-founder, and CEO of Nvidia with Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, emphasized the need for a data center to build a world-class AI infrastructure. “We are announcing that Reliance and Nvidia are partnering to build AI infrastructure here in India.”

“The biggest advantage India has is a very large population of users and now with the fundamental ingredients AI, data and AI infrastructure altogether create a flywheel.” Jensen believes intelligence is part of the infrastructure and every country should have its own, especially India, where it has every fundamentals available along with its own computer science expertise.

“You should not export data to import intelligence. India should not export flour to import bread,” added he.

Mukesh Ambani emphasized the importance of leveraging intelligence to enhance people's lives and promote equality. He also highlighted that India, following the United States and China, has one of the strongest digital connectivity infrastructures in the world.

Reliance Industries joined hands with Nvidia in September 2024 to create AI supercomputers and develop large language models (LLMs) tailored to support India’s diverse linguistic landscape. This partnership highlights Reliance's commitment to leveraging AI for the country's unique requirements.

Nvidia’s collaboration with Reliance aligns with its broader vision of advancing AI capabilities in India. Additionally, Nvidia has partnered with the Tata Group which further underscores its active role in driving AI innovation in the country. These collaborations demonstrate a collective effort to harness cutting-edge AI technologies to address India’s challenges and opportunities, fostering growth and development across multiple sectors.

The Indian government has announced huge funding for AI projects, startups, and LLM development. However, as a challenge, the country currently doesn’t own local semiconductor production space. India needs to build such facilities that require heavy investments in terms of resources, skilled workplace and time, still a developing aspect of India.
