Amazon workers across 20 countries plan to strike during the busiest Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales periods. To press upon workersโ€™ rights and demand climate action, workersโ€™ groups and representatives from unions are joining the protest against the US retailer, as per reports published by The Guardian.

The annual discount period is the busiest selling period when workers are busy complying with the demand. The protest is being planned to be held in big cities in countries like the US, the UK, Turkey, Germany, Canada, India, Brazil, Japan, and other countries.

The campaign is named Make Amazon Pay, calling upon the founder and the worldโ€™s second-richest man Jeff Bezos to Amazon workers fairly, allow them to join unions, commit to environmental sustainability, and practice a fair share of taxes.

The Make Amazon Pay movement is driven by the Swiss-based UNI Global Union, representing service industries, and Progressive International, the activist umbrella group. It brings together more than 80 trade unions, anti-poverty, and groups supporting garment worker rights including others.

On Black Friday, protests are set to take place outside the UK headquarters of Amazon on Bishopsgate in London. Activists from Tax Justice UK including other groups plan to file a petition with over 110,000 signatures on it, followed by a footslog to 11 Downing Street, urging the chancellor to end tax breaks for large corporations including Amazon UK.

The Amazon spokesperson said that the firm is proud of its competitive pay, engaging and sage work experience, and comprehensive benefits that they provide to their team. However, they are always looking and listening for ways to improve.
