Vanguard has appointed Mani Iyer as its Chief AI and Technology Officer, reinforcing the company’s strategic focus on advancing artificial intelligence, enterprise technology modernization, data-driven innovation, and next-generation digital capabilities across its global financial services operations.
With decades of leadership experience spanning AI, enterprise infrastructure, developer platforms, cloud technologies, digital transformation, and enterprise data ecosystems, Mani Iyer brings deep expertise in building and scaling large technology organizations within the financial services and fintech sectors.
In his new leadership role, he is expected to play a key role in strengthening Vanguard’s AI strategy, accelerating technology transformation initiatives, enhancing enterprise data capabilities, and driving innovation-led operational efficiencies across the organization.
Strengthening AI and Enterprise Technology Leadership
Mani Iyer joins Vanguard from PayPal, where he served as Senior Vice President – Global Head of Infrastructure, Data and AI Technology and Developer Platforms. During his tenure, he led large-scale initiatives focused on AI platforms, enterprise infrastructure modernization, developer ecosystems, and scalable technology operations supporting global digital financial services.
Prior to PayPal, he held the position of Executive Vice President, CIO and Head of Enterprise Data at Wells Fargo, where he was responsible for driving enterprise-wide technology transformation, data modernization strategies, and digital innovation initiatives across the banking giant’s operations.
Industry observers believe his extensive background in AI-driven infrastructure, enterprise-scale data systems, and financial technology modernization aligns closely with the evolving priorities of global financial institutions as they increasingly invest in automation, AI-led decision-making, cybersecurity, and digital customer experiences.
The announcement was shared by Vanguard’s Global CIO Nitin Tandon through a LinkedIn post. He said, "We’re making real progress in how we use data, technology, and AI to advance Vanguard’s mission. The next phase of transformation is the convergence of engineering and AI—where intelligence is built directly into the platforms, products, and workflows we create, not added on later. To accelerate this, I’m excited to welcome Mani Iyer as our Chief AI and Technology Officer to lead this effort.”
Welcoming him to the organization, Tandon further added, “With more than 20 years of leadership experience in technology, including roles at JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and most recently PayPal, Mani brings deep expertise leading large-scale technology, infrastructure, and data organizations. He will play a key role in shaping how we build modern platforms, engineer AI-native solutions, and apply data at scale across the enterprise. Our mission hasn’t changed—but how we deliver on it is evolving rapidly, powered by technology. Excited for what’s ahead. Welcome, Mani.”
Extensive Leadership Across Global Financial Technology Ecosystems
Before his leadership roles at PayPal and Wells Fargo, Mani Iyer spent over 15 years at JPMorganChase & Co., where he held multiple senior technology leadership positions, including Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer.
Throughout his career, he has been associated with large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives involving cloud computing, enterprise architecture, infrastructure engineering, data management, AI integration, and digital platform modernization.
He has also held positions at PwC, Knightsbridge Solutions, LUCRUM., and CTL Engineering, Inc., further strengthening his expertise across enterprise consulting, analytics, and technology strategy.
Vanguard Expands Focus on AI-Led Transformation
The appointment comes at a time when global financial institutions are rapidly accelerating investments in AI, machine learning, automation, and enterprise data intelligence to improve operational efficiency, strengthen risk management, enhance customer engagement, and optimize investment platforms.
Vanguard’s decision to establish and strengthen leadership around AI and enterprise technology reflects the growing importance of intelligent infrastructure, predictive analytics, and digital innovation within the financial services industry.
Industry analysts note that organizations are increasingly moving beyond traditional IT modernization toward AI-native operational frameworks capable of supporting scalable automation, real-time analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
With Mani Iyer taking over as Chief AI and Technology Officer, Vanguard is expected to further expand its focus on AI-powered innovation, enterprise data transformation, and technology-led business acceleration as competition intensifies across the global financial services landscape.
