Union Bank of India elevates Anil Kuril as the Chief Information Security Officer and Head of Data Protection. With this appointment, the firm continues its vision to make quality accounting services and facilities accessible and affordable for all, while positioning itself at the forefront of the rapidly growing fintech sector. As finance technology continues to evolve in the digital age, Anil’s experience is expected to play a pivotal role in scaling the company’s presence across India and beyond.
Sharing the excitement with his connections, Anil posted a long note on his LinkedIn handle, “Stepping Into a New Role: CISO & Head of Data Protection Office at Union Bank of India. I’m excited to share that I’ve taken on a new responsibility as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Head of the newly established Data Protection Office at Union Bank of India.”
“After serving as CTO and CDO, this transition marks a significant milestone in my journey—and a bold strategic shift for the Bank. Union Bank of India is now the first in the Indian banking industry to formally elevate cybersecurity and data protection to the leadership level, aligning it alongside technology and digital transformation. I’m truly honored to lead this charge.”
In his new role, Anil is anticipated to enhance the Union Bank’s cybersecurity strategy, threat intelligence, incident response, and data privacy initiatives. The firm’s decision to elevate Kuril reflects the growing emphasis on robust cybersecurity and data governance, especially in light of the newly enacted Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and the increasing complexity of the cyber threat environment.
“With the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and a rapidly evolving threat landscape, the need for strong, proactive cyber and data governance is more pressing than ever. As CISO and Head of the Data Protection Office, I’ll be leading our cybersecurity strategy, incident response, threat intelligence, and data privacy initiatives—ensuring Union Bank stays ahead of the curve,” he said.
Over the years, he has been privileged to drive several key digital transformation initiatives aimed at enhancing customer experience, scaling digital capabilities, and strengthening cybersecurity. The new role will allow him to build upon this foundation by embedding trust, resilience, and strong governance into the bank’s digital strategy.
This move reflects Union Bank’s core belief that data privacy and customer trust are the foundation of today’s digital era. “I’m grateful for the trust placed in me and look forward to this new chapter of driving security, privacy, and innovation hand-in-hand,” he concluded.
