PhonePe has promoted Srijon Biswas to the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), strengthening its technology leadership as the fintech major accelerates innovation across digital payments, financial services, and its expanding consumer technology ecosystem.
In his new role, Biswas will lead PhonePe's engineering organisation, overseeing technology development, platform scalability, and engineering execution across the company's growing portfolio of products and services. He will continue to report to Rahul Chari, Co-founder of PhonePe.
The leadership appointment comes as PhonePe continues to scale its technology infrastructure to support one of India's largest digital payments platforms while expanding into new financial services, commerce, and consumer-focused offerings.
Driving the Next Phase of Technology Growth
Biswas has been associated with PhonePe for several years, playing a key role in building the company's engineering organisation and scaling its technology platform to support hundreds of millions of users and millions of merchants across India.
His elevation reflects PhonePe's continued investment in engineering excellence, platform reliability, and product innovation as digital transactions and financial technology adoption continue to grow across the country.
Rahul Chari Takes on Expanded Responsibilities
Alongside Biswas's promotion, Rahul Chari has assumed the role of Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO). In addition to overseeing the company's product and technology functions, Chari will also lead trust and safety, data science and analytics, customer experience, and several strategic initiatives across the PhonePe Group.
The leadership restructuring is designed to strengthen collaboration between product development, engineering, customer experience, and data-driven innovation as the company broadens its digital ecosystem.
Strengthening India's Digital Payments Ecosystem
PhonePe continues to invest heavily in technology infrastructure, engineering talent, and platform capabilities to support the growing demand for secure, reliable, and scalable digital financial services.
As of April 2026, the platform had over 700 million registered users and a merchant acceptance network exceeding 50 million businesses, making it one of India's largest digital payments platforms.
With digital transactions continuing to grow rapidly, PhonePe is focusing on building resilient technology platforms capable of supporting high transaction volumes while delivering new products across payments, financial services, insurance, wealth management, and other digital offerings.
Biswas's appointment reinforces the company's long-term strategy of strengthening its engineering leadership to drive innovation, improve platform performance, and support the next phase of India's digital transformation.
