Hero MotoCorp has announced the appointment of Sachin Agrawal as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective May 21, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition as the company strengthens its focus on next-generation mobility, electrification, and advanced engineering capabilities.

In his new role, Agrawal will lead Hero MotoCorp’s global R&D transformation across the Hero Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT) in India and the Hero Tech Centre Germany (TCG). The appointment underscores the company’s strategic intent to accelerate innovation across electric mobility, alternative fuels, connected systems, and software-driven vehicle platforms.

He succeeds Vikram Kasbekar, who has been serving as CTO since May 2024 in his second tenure in the role. Kasbekar will step down from the CTO position on the same date but will continue to remain an Executive Director on Hero MotoCorp’s board, ensuring leadership continuity.

Strengthening future-ready technology roadmap

The appointment comes at a time when Hero MotoCorp is intensifying its transition from a traditional two-wheeler manufacturer to a technology-led mobility solutions company. Agrawal’s mandate will focus on strengthening the company’s long-term innovation pipeline, particularly in electric vehicles, hydrogen technologies, and connected mobility ecosystems.

With the automotive industry undergoing rapid disruption, Hero MotoCorp is increasingly investing in software-defined vehicles, AI-driven mobility platforms, and integrated digital architectures to stay competitive in emerging mobility segments.

Deep expertise across automotive innovation landscape

Agrawal brings over 29 years of experience in automotive research and development, spanning product engineering, powertrain systems, electric mobility, and advanced digital technologies. His career reflects extensive exposure to both conventional and future mobility platforms, including diesel, CNG, electric, and hydrogen-based systems.

Prior to joining Hero MotoCorp, he served as Executive Vice President and Head – R&D and Technology at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors. In this role, he led global engineering teams and drove multiple advanced technology programmes across commercial mobility solutions.

He has also held leadership positions at Volvo Group, Eicher Motors, and Daewoo Motors India Limited, where he contributed to critical developments in powertrain engineering and product innovation. His early career began at Daewoo Motors in South Korea, where he worked on the development of the Matiz chassis system.

Strong credentials in advanced and connected technologies

Beyond traditional automotive engineering, Agrawal has worked extensively in connected mobility, AI and machine learning integration, and software-defined vehicle ecosystems. His experience positions him strongly to lead Hero MotoCorp’s shift toward intelligent, digitally enabled mobility solutions.

He has also contributed to industry-level initiatives, serving as Chairperson of the SIAM Frontier Technology & Innovation Group and leading the Volvo Group Global Center of Excellence for Medium Duty Engine Development.

Academically, Agrawal holds an M.Tech in Mechanical Design from IIT Bombay and is a Leadership Fellow from Carnegie Mellon University, reflecting a strong foundation in both engineering and leadership excellence.

Strategic push towards innovation-led growth

Hero MotoCorp stated that the appointment of Agrawal reinforces its commitment to building a future-ready organisation capable of leading the next wave of mobility transformation. The company is actively scaling its R&D capabilities to strengthen its presence in electric two-wheelers, connected platforms, and alternative energy solutions.

With this leadership transition, Hero MotoCorp aims to accelerate its innovation roadmap and further integrate advanced technologies into its product development strategy, positioning itself for long-term competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global mobility landscape.
