City Union Bank Ltd. has appointed Saravanakumar Krishnamurthy as Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), adding an experienced cybersecurity and information security professional to its leadership team. With more than 22 years of experience across IT, network security and information protection, Krishnamurthy brings expertise spanning banking, telecommunications, automotive, healthcare, biotechnology and semiconductor industries.
His appointment comes as information security becomes an increasingly important part of banking technology, where protecting digital assets, managing cyber risks and maintaining secure technology infrastructure are critical to business continuity and customer confidence.
Extensive Experience Across Cybersecurity and IT
Krishnamurthy’s professional experience covers several areas of enterprise security, including security strategy, governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, digitalisation and automation. His work has involved developing security roadmaps, defining operating models and establishing information assurance frameworks aligned with industry standards.
He also has experience designing and implementing network and security infrastructure across cloud-based and on-premises environments. This combination of strategic planning and technical implementation gives him a broad background in managing information security requirements across complex technology environments.
His responsibilities have extended to internal and external audits, third-party assessments, regulatory reviews and country-specific compliance requirements. He has also worked with audit consultants, suppliers and vendors to address information requests and support security assessments.
Previous Leadership at Vivriti Capital and YES BANK
Before joining City Union Bank, Krishnamurthy served as Group Chief Information Security Officer, Vice President – IT and Data Protection Officer at Vivriti Capital. He led the organisation’s information and data security function, overseeing security strategies, policies, procedures and programmes aimed at protecting digital assets.

Earlier, he worked at YES BANK as Executive Vice President – Technology Engineering, with responsibilities spanning IT, network infrastructure and cybersecurity. His career also includes experience across diverse industries, including telecommunications, automotive, healthcare, biotechnology and semiconductors, giving him exposure to varied technology and security requirements.
Focus on Risk Management and Business Resilience
Krishnamurthy’s expertise extends beyond network protection and security architecture. His experience includes fraud detection and prevention, cyber incident investigation and response, business continuity planning (BCP) and disaster recovery management.
These areas are closely connected to the resilience of financial institutions, where security incidents and technology disruptions can affect operations, data integrity and service availability. Effective security management requires both preventive controls and the ability to respond to incidents, recover systems and maintain essential business functions.
His background in regulatory audits, risk mitigation and information assurance frameworks also adds experience in aligning security practices with organisational and compliance requirements.
Strengthening Information Security Leadership
At City Union Bank, Krishnamurthy brings a combination of cybersecurity engineering, information security governance and technology risk management experience. His appointment adds leadership expertise across security planning, infrastructure protection, audit readiness and incident response.
