Bharti Airtel has elevated Rashim Kapoor to Deputy Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Technology and Transformation, expanding his responsibilities across the telecom operator’s technology strategy, digital transformation and network operations. The leadership move marks another step in Kapoor’s career at Airtel, where he has held several senior positions across technology and network leadership.
In his new role, Kapoor will contribute to Airtel’s technology and transformation agenda, with responsibilities spanning technology strategy, digitalisation, network engineering, planning and operations. His expanded mandate comes as telecom operators continue to modernise their networks, strengthen digital capabilities and prepare infrastructure for rising data consumption and evolving customer expectations.
Expanding Technology and Network Leadership
Kapoor has built extensive experience within Airtel through a series of leadership roles. Before his latest elevation, he served as Deputy Chief Technology Officer, along with earlier positions including Executive Vice President – Networks, Senior Vice President – Core Networks, and Head – Core Networks and Services.
Across these roles, he has been involved in technology strategy, network transformation, digitisation, engineering, planning and operational functions. His experience has given him exposure to several critical components of telecom infrastructure, particularly core networks and broader network operations.
The new role is expected to further broaden his responsibilities, bringing together Airtel’s network capabilities and wider technology transformation priorities. It will also build on his long-standing involvement in developing and managing infrastructure designed to support changing connectivity requirements.
Experience Across Telecom Infrastructure
Before joining Airtel, Kapoor worked with Reliance Communications as Lead – Network Solutions. In that role, he was involved in the architecture and design of telecom network products and solutions covering mobile, fixed-line and enterprise networks.
Kapoor began his professional career with Escotel Mobile, where he served as Manager – Data Networks. His responsibilities included the architecture and design of data networks for mobile networks, helping establish the technical foundation for his subsequent career in telecom engineering and leadership.
His progression through increasingly senior positions reflects experience across both the technical and strategic aspects of telecom networks. This combination is expected to support his expanded mandate as Airtel continues to integrate network infrastructure with digital platforms and transformation initiatives.

Kapoor’s elevation comes as India’s telecom industry undergoes continued technology transformation, driven by expanding 5G infrastructure, increasing data traffic, network digitisation and the need for more efficient and scalable operations.
