Zee Media Website Hacked by Bangladeshi Group Alleging Mockery of Flood Crisis

In a significant cyberattack, the website of Zee Media, a prominent Indian news broadcasting company, has reportedly been hacked by a group of Bangladeshi hackers known as "SYSTEMADMINBD." The hacking group claims responsibility for the breach, alleging that it was carried out in retaliation for what they perceive as Zee Media's insensitive coverage of the ongoing flood crisis in Bangladesh. The floods, which have been exacerbated by heavy rainfall in neighboring India, have caused widespread devastation in Bangladesh, leading to significant loss of life and property.

The hacking group, "SYSTEMADMINBD," has been linked to various cybercrimes since 2023 and appears to be motivated by a desire to defend the national dignity of Bangladesh. In their statement, the hackers accused Zee Media of "mocking" the difficult situation in Bangladesh, suggesting that the broadcaster's reporting on the floods was disrespectful or lacking in empathy.

According to Hackread.com, the incident took place on the 21^st of August 2024, when the homepage of the website displayed one of the headlines of their stories saying “India released water! Bangladesh is flooding...”

The article also contained sentences like “Due to the flood, the authorities have opened the dam of the Dambur hydroelectric project. And that’s why Bangladesh is going to float,” which seemed derogatory to the Bangladeshi hackers.

SYSTEMADMINBD is a hacker group in action since April 2023. Since then, this group has been involved in various malicious activities including data breaches, website defacement, and hacktivism. They have a history of targeting government websites in India and Bangladesh, alongside business organizations in Europe and Israel.
