YouTube has appointed Gunjan Soni as its Country Managing Director for India, in a strategic move forward to expand its footprint in one of its fastest-growing and most dynamic markets. At YouTube India, Soni is expected to spearhead the platform’s next phase of growth, leveraging her deep expertise in digital transformation, consumer behaviour, and content-driven engagement.

With over two decades of expertise spanning business, technology, marketing, and e-commerce, Soni’s appointment is anticipated to drive greater innovation and deeper consumer engagement in YouTube India.  Gautam Anand, Vice President & Managing Director, YouTube Asia Pacific at Google, announced her appointment on his LinkedIn handle and wrote, “Exciting news from my APAC leadership team! As India remains one of YouTube's most vibrant and crucial markets, brimming with creativity and opportunity, I'm delighted to announce that Gunjan Soni has joined YouTube as our new Country Managing Director for India.”

Gunjan Soni reposted his post and thanked him, saying, “ I am both humbled and thrilled to join this dynamic team, and lead a platform that has long supported the powerhouse of talent that is - the Indian creator economy.”

“Witnessing how YouTube empowers creators and connects millions of people across hashtag#India is truly inspiring! I'm super excited about building on this foundation, fostering innovation, and further enhancing the platform's role in helping creators unlock new storytelling opportunities and reach billions of audiences globally,” she further wrote.

Prior to joining YouTube, Soni held leadership positions at some of the world’s leading organizations. Most recently, she served as Chief Operating Officer and CEO of ZALORA SEA and a Management Board member at Global Fashion Group (GFG), a leading online fashion and lifestyle destination. Additionally, she was associated as CEO of ZALORA Group in Southeast Asia, scaling the platform’s reach and strengthening its market position.

Having started as a Software Engineer at Infosys Technologies, there was no looking back for Soni. In a small yet impactful tenure at McKinsey & Company, she became the driving force behind the McKinsey Scientific Marketing practice in the Indian market.

Soni’s professional journey includes an impactful tenure at Myntra, leading marketing initiatives as a Chief Marketing Officer and driving growth strategies as Head of Jabong. She played a key role in making Myntra and Jabong household names in India's competitive online fashion space. Earlier in her career, at Star India, she was part of the founding team that launched Hotstar, now known as Disney+ Hotstar, India's popular digital entertainment platform. She spearheaded new initiatives in online content and sports.

Reflecting a strong technical background, Soni pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya and later completed her MBA in Finance from XLRI Jamshedpur. Being a seasoned professional, she is skilled in Management Consulting, Market Entry, Business Strategy and Transformation, Financial Modeling, to name a few.

India represents a vital market for YouTube, and Soni’s onboarding includes strengthening YouTube's creator ecosystem, enhancing user experiences, and further increasing revenue streams through innovative partnerships and advertisements.
