India’s manufacturing sector is entering a new era, driven by digital transformation, rising demand for energy-efficient solutions, and strong policy support through Make in India and PLI schemes. Microtek, one of India’s leading power solution brands, is at the forefront of this shift. In an exclusive interaction with DT, Manoj Jain, Director of Microtek International Pvt. Ltd., discusses the company’s manufacturing expansion plans, the role of government policies, and the emerging opportunities that will define the next phase of India’s manufacturing journey.

Scaling Capacity with Automation and R&D

Emphasizing Microtek’s expansion plans, Manoj Jain stated, “Our manufacturing operations in India are currently growing steadily, with a strong focus on quality and innovation. We have multiple production lines dedicated to key products such as inverters, UPS systems, and solar solutions.”

He also added, “By the end of 2025, we plan to expand our capacity by adding new automated production lines, investing in smart manufacturing technologies, and increasing local sourcing. We also aim to boost exports and strengthen our R&D capabilities to support advanced technology products.”

Why India is Emerging as a Global Manufacturing Alternative

Highlighting India’s rising strategic importance, Manoj explained, “India is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for global tech companies to set up manufacturing facilities. This is driven by strong government support through initiatives such as Make in India and PLI schemes. The country also offers a large pool of skilled workers and competitive labor costs.”

He further said, “In addition, many companies are seeking to reduce their dependence on China, making India a strategic alternative. With a rapidly expanding domestic market and growing technology adoption, India presents a compelling choice for tech manufacturing.”

Policy Support Fueling Industry Growth

Acknowledging the role of government, Manoj highlighted, “The government and policymakers play a pivotal role in advancing tech hardware manufacturing in India. Initiatives such as Make in India and PLI schemes provide strong support to companies through financial incentives, infrastructure development, and a more business-friendly environment.”

He added, “By reducing import duties, promoting local manufacturing, and establishing dedicated electronics zones, the government is actively positioning India as a global hub for tech manufacturing.”

Challenges Manufacturers Must Overcome

Addressing the hurdles, Manoj remarked, “Manufacturers in India face several significant challenges. These include the high cost of importing raw materials and electronic components, delays in obtaining regulatory approvals, and complex tax regulations. Poor infrastructure in some regions and a shortage of skilled labor also present difficulties.”

He further noted, “Furthermore, global competition and rapidly changing technology make it harder for manufacturers to remain competitive. Addressing these issues is crucial for India to grow into a strong manufacturing hub.”

OEMs and ODMs: A Horizon of New Opportunities

Looking ahead, Manoj underscored the huge potential for OEMs and ODMs in India. He said, “In the next 3–5 years, OEMs and ODMs in India are poised for significant growth. Demand for electronics such as smartphones, EVs, smart appliances, and wearables is rising rapidly.”

“With strong government support, robust local demand, and global companies seeking new manufacturing bases, India stands out as a prime destination. There is also an expanding opportunity to export “Made in India” products to global markets,” he concluded.
