The chief executive and chairman of cybersecurity company Tenable Holdings lost his battle with cancer at the age of 54 on Friday. The veteran entrepreneur became the company's CEO in 2016 and played an instrumental role in driving its growth, including its 2018 IPO (Initial Public Offering).
The company shared the news of his demise via X, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Amit Yoran, after a battle with cancer.”
To inform his “friends and colleagues over the course of decades in the cyber industry,” he shared “the brief update” on the professional networking website LinkedIn that he shared with his “Tenable Team just a few months ago”
“Following up to my email in March, I want to share a personal update on my health situation. I recently learned that my cancer requires additional treatment. While this is disappointing, it is still a very treatable situation. After much consideration with my doctors, family and colleagues, I have decided to take a temporary leave of absence to focus on my health and recovery.”
“As I take a brief pause to prioritize my health, I will stay as connected as I can while giving myself the space to heal fully.” Also, he added, “We have much to do and there is no time to waste.”
The company will continue operations under the leadership of Chief Operating Officer Mark Thurmond and Chief Financial Officer Steve Vintz, who were appointed co-CEOs following Yoran's medical leave in December last year, as reported by Reuters. “I have complete trust in their ability—and yours—to keep our mission and transformation moving forward with the same passion and commitment to our customers. We have much to do and there is no time to waste,” said he in his post showing trust in the management.
Showing gratitude to everyone, he wrote, “I am deeply grateful for each of you, not only for the dedication you bring to your work but for the sense of community we’ve built together.” “Thank you in advance for your understanding and support. I am grateful for you all,” concluded his post.
Yoran’s position as the company’s chairman of the board will now be succeeded by the firm’s lead independent director, Art Coviello.
Prior to joining Tenable, Yoran served as President of Dell Technologies' RSA cybersecurity unit and was the founding director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's US-CERT (United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team), an agency dedicated to protecting Americans from cyberattacks.
Amit Yoran's passing marks a profound loss for the cybersecurity community. His career graph demonstrates his unwavering commitment to enhancing cybersecurity and protecting critical infrastructure.
