Tamil Nadu has topped India’s electronics exporter list for the third consecutive year and cemented its position as India’s undisputed leader in the domain. The state has registered a record-breaking $14.65 billion in export order value for FY25.
This remarkable figure accounts for 41.23% of India’s total electronics exports for the fiscal year, placing the state far ahead of its closest competitors, including Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, whose combined exports fell short of Tamil Nadu’s alone, according to CNBC-TV18 reports. This is a testament to the state’s sustained policy focus, industrial investments, and expanding manufacturing base. FY25’s performance reflects a 53% year-on-year increase over FY24, when the state logged $9.56 billion in exports.
As per the report, this surge is attributed to a combination of strategic public policy and major private investments. Key among these was Cisco’s entry into Indian manufacturing, with its first-ever plant set up in Tamil Nadu in collaboration with Flex, complemented by large-scale investments from companies like Foxconn, Jabil, and Tata Electronics.
The CNBC-TV18 report shows that the state’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem has matured, drawing both global and domestic firms. Investments valued at ₹2,000 crore to ₹12,000 crore have helped establish Tamil Nadu as a hub for components, devices, and end-product assembly.
The report suggests that Tamil Nadu’s consistent lead over industrial players like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh highlights the state’s superior execution in capitalizing on the global demand for electronics.
Also, the state could cross the $20 billion export mark in FY26, building on its current momentum, as per the CNBC-TV18 projection. In the long term, the state aims for a $100 billion electronics export economy, powered by sustained foreign direct investment, favorable macroeconomic conditions, and policy continuity. As the world shifts toward digital and smart technologies, Tamil Nadu’s performance underscores the crucial role Indian states can play in transforming the nation into a global electronics powerhouse.
